Is there ANYONE that DOESN’T have the Blue Jays on their no-trade clause? Why are the Blue Jays so hated among these players?
JacksTigers
Not hated, but you have to move out of the country and most people would like to be able to choose if they want to or not.
PittsburghPirates0022
In Canada and they play on astro-turf.
nickgarciataria
Explain the Rays then. They play on turf.
Wek
Not Canada and no state tax.
nickgarciataria
MLB should not be Canada vs USA. You’re basically saying it’s because they hate Canada and the Blue Jays.
Baseball Realism
Explain when the last time the Rays signed or traded for a big time player ?
And considering all the special rules that come into play when playing in tropicana, using them to prove your point was probably not the best idea.
nickgarciataria
I used them because PittsburghPirates0022 said the turf was the reason why. Yet I see almost nobody blocking trades to the Rays (who also play on turf), so turf is not the reason why.
Baseball Realism
The Rogers Center tends to be a hitters ball park and you are stuck playing against the rest of the ALEast most of the time(obviously not as intimidating this year as in previous years). If I was a pitcher worrying about my stats, I would probably shy away from playing for the jays as well.
nickgarciataria
By that logic, pitchers would still pick the Blue Jays over the Yankees, as Yankee Stadium has given up more home runs than Rogers Centre has. Yet I see nobody blocking trades to the Yankees.
mike 83
its the canadian taxes i believe it really takes a chunk out of the contracts
Wek
I pretty sure I read somewhere USA teams with a Canadian home (Blue Jays, Raptors and probably some NHL teams) pay a special tax.
Baseball Realism
You should check the tax rates. Both Canada and the USA federal taxes are relatively the same. It comes down to state vs provincial taxes.
Lefty_Orioles_Fan
No, Thank You.
While Danks doesn’t walk a lot, he gives up a lot of hits.
As a lot of us saw with Cliff Lee Last night, that’s not good.
Cachhubguy
He has a 1.42 WHIP with 3.34 BB/ 9. An accident waiting to happen. For $16 million. No thanks.
griffey9988
So basically he doesn’t want to go to any good teams. No worries we don’t want you either.
Matthew Essex
So he doesn’t want to play for a winning team, a winning team, a winning team, or a winning team. Good thing he plays for the White Sox then!
Jeremy Johnson
Or you know he doesn’t want to play for those teams.
Matthew Essex
Yea, cause everyone wants to play for a loser. That’s why everyone begged to sign with Miami and Houston this past offseason.
Jonas Salk
Maybe he just doesn’t want to live in those cities. Honestly, who can blame him?
Matthew Essex
Have you not watched the news lately? Chicago is as bad as downtown Baghdad, yet you want to criticize places like Baltimore and Toronto?
Jonas Salk
I live in Chicago. Those areas where the shootings happen are not anywhere near where people like John Danks live. Maybe you forget how enormous the city of Chicago is and the enormous marketing potential players have here. Certainly far more enticing than Baltimore or Toronto.
Matthew Essex
Toronto and Baltimore are way better cities than Chicago…….
Jonas Salk
You base that off what? I’ve been to Baltimore many times, and it’s boring, not to mention small. Never been to Toronto, but let’s face it, it’s in Canada which automatically disqualifies it as a place you want to live.
DarthMurph
Personally, I would like to have the right not to live in the Baltimore/Oakland areas.
Baseball Realism
I am pretty sure he would not be living in the poor sections of those cities
Ralph Esposito
Yep. Only to the Cubs, Astros and Diamondbacks. I think that covers all 30 teams. Oh wait, how about the Cardinals, Brewers, Pirates, Braves, Dodgers, Giants, Tigers, Yankees, Royals, Angels and Mariners? It seems like we missed those good teams.
Ralph Esposito
How about when he signed that contract three years ago, those four teams were absolutely brutal. I do not believe a players no trade list changes from month to month or yearly on a 5 year deal.
mikecws91
Sometimes the provisions of the contract allow a player to pick his no-trade teams every year. It doesn’t sound like that’s the case here though.
agureghian
Well, Billy doesn’t want you anyway.
