Funny… that sounds eerily like the outgoing quote from a few of the smart baseball ops guys Hinch helped chase out of their positions when he and Byrnes rode Moorad’s coattails into town.
Leo Ramos
A.J Hinch was there because Josh Byrnes was there, they were good friends when they were destroying our Dbacks organization, now he knows that he was going to be eventually fired anyway so he just leaved the team…

I don’t know if Hinch was going to be fired or ratified, but I liked the trades he orchestrated these past weeks. At least short term, the team is playing their best ball for the season and I guess long term will look good with some of the prospects we got.
I really hope this managerial changes doesn’t affect the way we are playing right now.
we’re just 8.5 games back for the Wild Card.
Does anyone thinks it’s possible to get into the playoffs? I really do.

The Padres have 6 teams in front of them for the 2nd wild card spot. It’s not mathematically impossible they could make it but extremely unlikely. They haven’t even played .500 ball, there’s no sign they will turn it around.

The Padres are closer to the Rockies and last place than they are to the wild card.

You’re really kidding yourself then.
BP’s postseason probabilities sit at 0.3% for the Friars to get there.
Personally, that seems optimistic.
If you figure the #2 wildcard gets in with 87 wins, that would mean the Padres have to to .700 winning percentage for the rest of the season.

No. Sorry.

Moorad never should have forced Hoyer out for Byrnes. Jed was happy here and would have been committed to staying if Moorad showed any support. Made it easy when Theo came a knocking.

Byrnes made a few boneheaded moves, as well as a couple of nice ones for the organization. Never really brought in a big bat that could produce for us. I guess this makes sense, given that we have a new GM, and now he can bring in one of his guys.
