What qualifies Young or Kapler to be a major league manager?
Jeff Hill
What qualifies any former player to be a major league manager? Like why did the Tigers hire Ausmus, the Cardinals hire Matheny, the White Sox Ventura, etc. The only one of those players that was good was Ventura. Ausmus and Matheny were each decent players in their careers.

Agreed, the problem is in my opinion there is a lack of experienced big league manager’s because the guys that are super qualified, aka Jose Oquendo, Dave Martinez, Rich Knapp’s Dave Duncan’s, Mike Maddox’s of world are A) to old, or B) are highly known in there craft’s of either being a pitching coach or a bench coach.

Knowing the game, people skills, and intelligence are the raw tools. Everything else you learn on the job with a good bench coach to guide you

How does one know if they have the people skills to direct 40 players when they have never had any experience in that area.
As for Asmus, Metheny, and Ventura – I’m not too sure about any of them.

All of those guys were respected and were leaders in the clubhouse. That directly translates.

Being around the game long enough to understand how to be a leader in a clubhouse, how to talk to the media, how to deal with different personalities, etc. The managing part of the job is easier than what I just mentioned

Wally Backman has been deserving a chance to manage at the major league level for years now….

Actually, I am surprised Washington made it to MLB TR
Did his crisis team say it was wise to do so?
If I were him, I would make like an ostrich and bury my head in the sand.
Other then that, it’s his wife that he should be concerned about.
Not what anyone else thinks.

Please stop hiring guys with no managerial experience.
-Sincerely, the Brad Ausmus and Mike Matheny Society for Competent Mangers.

In my opinion in order for you to be a manager you need to have some sort of coaching experience.

Where is Willie Randolph’s name or Mike Maddox’s names being mentioned.
oz10 2
Maddox has been discussed many times.
Leon Barry
But he wasn’t a catcher…

Michael Young would be a huge mistake: no managerial experience, a bad exit with the club in the past and he might show too much misplaced loyalty to guys he is friends with like Elvis Andrus. If the team can be better and cut their monetary losses by trading Andrus this winter, they should. The Rangers aren’t a team that should take a flyer on an inexperienced manager. Young can go to a rebuilding team like the Astros, where he can learn on the job and it won’t hurt the team in 2015.

I think the rangers need to to think about the off-season right now and I believe they will get some starting pitching and get a hitter or too but the one problem is for the rangers is JD. He is on the hot seat because there are rumors that the organization might fired him but you never know what will happen. Oh and btw this is my opinion so please feel free to ask me any questions that you would like to ask thank you
