Almost completely sapped power, diminishing contact skills, doesn’t get on base, Rios doesn’t have much going for him anymore. I don’t see how any team can justify giving him a guaranteed 2 years unless his base salary was really low.

He has become Vernon Wells

Walt Jocketty will find a way to do so and add an option for a third year. I may be exaggerating a bit, but I do see Walt attempting to sign him.

Anyone remember the Lincecum for Rios rumors back in the day? December 5th, 2007. …before Timmy went off! So glad that didn’t happen.

Rios has been worth 15.5 fWAR from 2008 and on. Lincecum has been worth 24 fWAR during that same time. Big difference. However, the gap is really pronounced due to the 2008/09 seasons that Lincecum had. Since then … not much difference (9.8 fWAR for Rios vs 9.9 fWAR for Lincecum).
I’d also point out that Rios has earned $72M since 2008. Lincecum was paid $83M with another $18M coming next year. Rios has certainly provided better VALUE than Lincecum outside of Timmy’s 08/09 season.

I like how no value is given to the two Cy Young Awards and two World Series Championships.

Glad we never traded Lincecum for this guy!

Reasonable guess for Rios. I’d think he could land 2 years though if his AAV is only $8.5M.

He’s a pull hitter and Arlington stadium doesn’t favor right handed pull hitters so that did suppress his numbers even if it is slightly. His bat plays well in SF , Philly or Boston.
