Cabrera seems like a good fit for the Yanks, he would give them some more flexibility in the infield. He should get 3/30 offer from the Bombers.
Vandals Took The Handles
With the way he doses off during a game while in the field, it will get very ugly with those NYC fans.

The A’s are a logical choice. Need middle infield help with Lowrie gone and Sogard being just plain bad.
DarthMurph
3/27 isn’t really all that logical for the A’s.
Donkeybomb
Yeah he might be a little pricey for Oakland, but I’m sure they’ll make a run at him anyways
TB 2
With no draft pick compensation around him i could no doubt see the yankees giving him 3 for 30 to be the next SS
LazerTown
I would do that. That’s a pretty nice price. He isn’t a star, but he is young enough, and healthy enough that you aren’t as worried about a long decline phase.

So let’s review: last 2 years, can’t hit, can’t field and now he’s one of the “top” options on the free agent market. This is what free agency has come to. On behalf of the Yankees, PASS. Sign Drew, one year, $7 million. At least he can do half of the equation, the more important half for an up-the-middle player.
LazerTown
I’d rather have him locked up for 3 years at that price. He is still really young, so you aren’t looking at a decline phase. He isn’t the best option ever, but he is someone you can sign, and then worry about other positions.
Douglas Rau
Unless he hits .241/.307/.387 like last season between the Indians and the Nationals last season or .242/.299/.402 like he did in 2013 with bad defense. Then you can’t just worry about the other positions because you also have to worry about the position he’s playing. For comparison’s sake, Brian Roberts hit .237/.300/.360 so Cabrera was only minimal, incrementally better than Roberts last season. Now imagine being on the hook for 2 more years of Brian Roberts at $10 million per. Given the option, I think I’d rather roll the dice with a minor leaguer and spend the $10 million elsewhere.
LazerTown
13 wrc+ points higher isn’t exactly minimal. Over past 3 years his offense is 101 wrc+. That is league average.

Since he was traded mid-season, can the Yankees sign him without surrendering a draft pick? That seems to make him a more attractive option that Lowrie, who I believe is also not such a great fielder, and who is hurt a lot.
Douglas Rau
A player must be with his team the entire season in order for his team to be given the option of making a qualifying offer. So the Nats can’t offer Cabrera one nor the Athletics, to Lester or the Mariners, to Kendrys Morales. Even if Stephen Drew hadn’t been traded, I believe the Red Sox wouldn’t have been able to offer him one because he didn’t spend the whole season with them.
But a qualifying offer is, I believe, for this off-season, $15ish million so if the Athletics want to get draft pick compensation, that’s what they have to offer Lowrie. I don’t think the Athletics would do that because I don’t think they view Lowrie as a $15 million player. If they make that offer, he can just say “yes” and that’s it, no more negotiating. If they don’t, there’s no draft pick compensation attached to him.
Overbrook
A bad defensive shortstop who has just nicked 700 OPS the last 2 seasons gets $10 mill a year?
Alexei is a big bargain after all.
bder19
I know right? I was disappointed that Hahn didn’t ship him out last July, but now I can’t imagine trading him
Douglas Rau
Alexei is the guy I wanted the Yankees to acquire when all their positions players (and the first round of backups) were all injured at the same time in 2013. He could have played short in 2013, second/short in 2014 and then moved to short in 2014 full time.
bgardnerfanclub
Stephen Drew just looks better and better.
Vandals Took The Handles
At the beginning of the season, the son of the Nationals owner came out stating that the team had reached it salary limit.
They have Jordan Zimmerman and Fister coming up for free agency shortly, as well as Scott Boras stating that Mike Trout’s contract will have no bearing on what Bryce Harper will be looking for in his next contract.
I think 3/27 is what he’ll be going after. I cannot see the Nationals having that sort of money to spend on a 2B that is now hitting in the .230’s-.240’s, and possibly platooning him to boot. Unless Asdrubal drops his price quite a bit, I think he may find a problem hooking on anywhere. He’s been living off the perception of 2 good half-season’s he had years ago.
Flash Gordon
Boras is right, Trout’ s contract should have zero bearing on Harper’s next deal. That is unless Harper shows he can stay healthy and put up a couple 8 WAR years. He’s real young and should be really good but his name does not belong anywhere close to Trout’ s at this point.
Ace McCloud®
Wouldn’t mind seeing him in Oakland for that 3yr/$27MM price tag.
