I’m wondering if the Yankees would pass on Robertson if he rejects the QO and go after Romo.
Scott Berlin
I’d rather they go for Luke Gregerson or Andrew Miller especially since they are younger and better.
MB923
Wouldn’t be a bad choice, but I think Miller is going to ask for the most money and if this past season was really his first very good season. Not saying his success won’t continue but I’d take Romo over Miller.
I forgot Gregerson was a FA. Another good choice.

Romo is a great set-up candidate. Counting on him to close is a bit much. I hope he stays in SF. He’s been part of the core-four bullpen that has dominated through three postseasons. 3 year 21 MM is a bit much. I think 3yr 15MM is more reasonable.
The Oregonian
I don’t think we really need him. Lincecum/Petit, Machi, Affeldt, Gutierrez, Lopez, Strickland (gulp), Casilla. Taking a flyer on a cheaper depth option that could be stashed in Sacramento, like maybe Jose Veras, would make more sense, so that we can spend our money on 3B, LF, and the holes in the rotation.

If the Dodgers still had Colletti, he’d be signed.
Wooltron
Giants should offer him something similar to the contract they gave Affeldt, but nothing more.

This post misses the biggest reason for Romo’s decline this past year. In years prior, he had the nastiest slider. It had 9.5 inches of horizontal movement. He through it over 50% of the time. It was about as unhittable as a pitch can get. This past year, it lost a lot of movement. Still good, but just enough less good that it became hittable. He threw it less as a result. None of the other pitches in his repertoire are that noteworthy. Without that crazy slider, he’s not that special.
How much he’s offered is going to depend on whether or not a team thinks he can get that nasty slider back. If he can’t whatever he gets will be too much.
PoseyTheGreat
He still gets plenty of swings and misses with that there slider.
Metsfan93
It had 9.5 inches of total movement, not horizontal. It declined form 9.5 to 8.9 but his slider K% and SwStr% remained very close to his career norms. 40 vs. 42.8 and 20.2 vs. 20.9. It’s still a major weapon.
Vandals Took The Handles
Probably plays better in the AL where they haven’t seen him.
UK Tiger
I really dont think Romo had a much worse ’14 than ’13 at all if you look at some other peripherals.
His SIERA was lower, his WHIP was lower, his .avg against was lower, his strikeout to walk ratio was higher, his strikeout percentage on the whole was higher. His HR/9 was higher yes but that can be attributed to simple rougher luck.
Hes still got it.

There are so many Low 2014 ERA Relief Arms our there. I originally thought that Miller would easily exceed $32MM, now I am not so sure. Romo is a nice fall back option and really should be a closer on many teams.
MB923
That would be a massive overpay IMO for Miller. He had a great 2014, but his career numbers, even as a reliever, are not all that impressive.
