$900K bonus for an 11th round pick? Um, can I hit a life reset button?

Is this post for real? The only reason he was an 11th round pick is because he was viewed as hard to sign. He would have been a ~3rd round pick otherwise.
Teams always draft the hard to sign guys in the 11th round, because it won’t hurt their bonus allotment if they fail to sign an 11th rounder.
Have you ever followed the MLB draft, ever?

Fangraphs have the guy at #135, MLB.com has him at #139, but Baseball America has him at #392. I understand a little bit of disparity between scouting organizations, but I have never noticed this much of a difference. Weird.

It happens sometimes. I would assume it is much more common with high school kids as they can be more difficult to project going forward, as is the case with Sandoval.

The Astros and Rangers were speculated to have had the best drafts and both teams have signed their top ten picks and most of their other picks. I think the Rangers have only 4 remaining unsigned picks and 3 of them are in the last 10 picks. The far too early award of “Best Draft 2015” goes to the state of Texas.

I understand that the slot system has fixed a lot of the issues with the draft, but something that still irks me is what happened to this kid. The team is clearly saying he’s worth $1.3MM to them, seeing as that’s what they’re spending in total, between the bonus and the penalty. But the kid only gets the $900k.
If he’s worth $1.3MM, he should be able to get the $1.3MM. I’d be mad if I were the kid. I mean, obviously he agreed to the deal, but it’s just silly to think that the team is saying “you’re worth this to us, but this is what we can give you.”
