No one is giving up anything to take on Stanton’s contract. That was an albatross before the ink dried.

It was a 6 year/$107 million deal….he made $6.5 million this year, so there is pretty much $100 million left over 5 years. Assuming he can stay healthy, he will opt out by the time that option comes up. He would easily top 7/$218 million as a free agent in that scenario

$26MM per season over the next 12 for a 25 year old who already has 25 WAR? Guys like Tim Lincecum and Rick Porcello get paid $17MM and over $20MM per season (respectively). It’s the market now. It’s a lot of money, but it’s certainly not an albatross and plenty of teams would have interest.

To the Billionaires Owners of the dodgers Stanton’s contact is Chump Money !
Philliesfan4life
If the dodgers were to trade for Stanton, the marlins would be asking for atleast Seager or Urias as the main piece

Yup and we know how the dodgers fans LOVE their prospects… Boston would make a max offer of their #30 ranked prospect and cash for stanton … with a straightface!

Byung-Ho Park only plays 1B?
Draven Moss
I think I read that he had worked out at 3rd base during the 2014 season in order to become more appealable to MLB teams whenever he was posted. I do not think he projects to be very good there though and whatever team that signs him should be looking to primarily play him at 1st. I would guess that LF would be an easier position than 3rd too, but I don’t think he would have much range.

The competition for Park should price the Pittsburgh Pirates out of the bidding very quickly. With the impending arbitration raises of a number of their key players, plus choosing which free agent contracts to attempt to extend, Neil Huntington will have some very difficult decisions to render before potentially overpaying for Park.

I don’t see anyone wanting to have stantons contract. Guess it’s a possibility but highly doubt it

Rangers fan…gimme. here’s Choo and 40 mill, gallo, tate, luke jackson.

Sure, as a fan it’s easy. As an owner taking on $300MM that you will only pay if it’s a vad contract is terrible.
eilexx
Uh…$25M/year for the game’s best slugger? I think a number of teams…the Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Giants, Red Sox, Angels, Cardinals, etc. would be more than happy to take that contract off the Marlin’s hands.

The only way it works out is if he opts-out and the team is smart enough to let him walk.
tac3
Phillies would take it
