Phillies should take on Hill’s contract. Hill and Marcus Wilson for Jonathan Petibone or something. Pitney have the financial muscle and Wilson is pretty far away (2018 at least), but he shows excellent discipline and good speed. Hill could serve in a bench leadership role (occasionally spelling Freddy and Cesar) and if he does well in the first half, they can flip him and try to get even a bit more. No downside there. Don’t want to rush Crawford.

Why would the Phillies, who are in a rebuild mode, want to take on Hill’s contract?

Are we sure the D-Backs aren’t in the market to move Pollock? I would love to see him wearing a Rays uni next season.

Before the season even began (and Pollock got even better) Stewart had already publicly listed him as one of the team’s two untouchable players (along with Goldschmidt). Obviously, if the right deal came along, that could change, but the value Pollock provides at a premium position, along with his cost and remaining years of control, means that the price to pry him away from Arizona would be astronomical if anyone tried.

I know he is a virtual untouchable or at least should be, but I’m just a big fan.

How about a bad contract for a bad contract? Hill for CJ Wilson? How does the money match up?
stymeedone
I don’t think the Angels think of Wilson as a bad contract. They just need room in the budget.
jamesa-2
Wilson is hardly a bad contract. If the Angels and Moreno want out from under Wilson that badly, I imagine the Diamondbacks agree to a straight swap, or maybe they try and get a bit of money out of the Angels. The key would be unloading Hill though, while immediately improving the rotation for a single year.

Difficult to believe someone who throws as hard as De La Rosa does and has that filthy change up he does simply can’t get LH hitters out. Not isolated to this year either, but what Boston had found out for good last year and probably why they gave up on him last year and moved him while the moving was good. Not sure if he can do anything to correct it really, other than start busting LH hitters inside more, which he didn’t do much in Boston as remember, probably due to his lack of really good command of the zone with the FB overall.
Would be a shame if a guy, with 2 nice pitches like that ended up being relegated to “RH relief out getter” as a guy who regularly would tick up to the upper 90’s during games.

Where does Hellickson fit in the rotation moving forward?

I tend to like Hill at second. He’s a solid defender, a quiet, good clubhouse guy who handled the situation of playing time well. Plus, he is streaky with the bat. When he’s going well, it can last for big stretches of the season. Hill won’t be getting any better as a player, but he’s a great 7th or 8th hitter in a stacked Dbacks lineup.
Drury should be super-utility and replace Hill or Lamb if they fall off a cliff.
Owings and Inciarte are who I’d trade. Owings is ending the year with a solid run at the plate. He never walks and his defense is middle of the road. Enciarte is a speedy leadoff guy and he plays some good defense. He’d be well suited to play Center Field, but an even better player, AJ Pollock, is a fixture there. David Peralta has had quite a second half and should start in Left. Tomas is both owed too much and had a solid year, he’s in Right, which leaves Ender an amazing trade piece. The Dbacks could build quite a strong package for those two, a package for some Starting Pitching.
I agree, the main concern for the Diamondbacks going into 2015 is their rotation. A good crop of pitchers are going to be available for as Free Agents. If they could sign or trade for a couple #2 level SPers, they’d go a long way towards contention.

I agree with Corbin,Anderson & Ray but no chance for Delgado. Godley is a must and round out the last spot with either Blair or Bradely
