I’m hoping the Yankees do strike a deal; I cringed every time Gardner came to bat from the month of September on. He looked so lost out there, he needs a fresh start bad. Hopefully the Yankees could throw in a prospect like Gary Sanchez in addition to Gardner, to pull of Taijuan Walker.
jjs91
Well ya, he was injured.
jakegreenberg24
Even if he was injured, him and Ellsbury killed every single rally down the stretch, and are most responsible for the collapse. Trading one of the two opens up a spot and payroll to go after Heyward, who the Yanks are said to be interested in. Gardner is more tradeable than Ellsbury, so in all likelihood, he will be the one to go.
jabmets
I’m sorry I bein a mets fan would love heyward but do the Yankees need another 20 mill A year player that’s not even a starting pitcher. Price or greinke should be what they are looking for not a position that’s already solid. Plus with judge coming up and other top prospects why spend that kind of money

Walker still has ace/top of the rotation potential. Gardner plus Sanchez shouldn’t get a deal done mainly because they have Zunino who would probably be better if he can raise his BA to a league average level. Walker would be a centerpiece to any deal and I imagine a Gardner trade for him might have to include one of Bird/Judge/Mateo and probably a pitcher to replace him in the rotation. Obviously the Mariners would be sending more than just Walker in that hypothetical trade but you’re undervaluing Walker and forgetting that the Mariners already have a catcher.
Andyman516
no, walker will stay put on Seattle, they’ll have to go a different avenue, Seattle’s grooming him for the long haul
Stash_The_Gumbo
Cameron Maybin! Braves are overloaded with outfielders. DiPoto, call Coppy!
seamaholic 2
They may be loaded with OF, but he’s their only CF, unless they want to roll with Bourn out there and hope (I suspect they’ll trade him though).
mj-2
Wonder what the Braves could get for Maybin
Stash_The_Gumbo
Hopefully some salary relief! Any decent players that are returned are just gravy at that point.
cheftay
Maybe a Trumbo for Maybin and a prospect/bullpen arm?
kcpaul
Why not make a trade offer for Jarrod Dyson?
seamaholic 2
Not a bad idea. Charlie Blackmon is another.
rmullig2
The Royals dumped Rios and are likely to lose Gordon. How can they replace three outfielders with such a limited budget?
MB923
Call me biased if you want but I think Paxton for Gardner straight up is a very fair swap (matter if fact, I’m sure based on projection, the Mariners win that trade)
Gardner has 3 years left and puts up a 3-4 WAR every year whereas Paxton has 4 years left but has only 13 starts in each of the past 2 seasons and has yet to throw 75 innings in a single season
I’m not saying that either side should do it, nor am I saying it will happen, but I think it’s a pretty fair trade
Stonehands
Player-value wise, it seems pretty fair, but NYY might have to throw in a /b prospect or cash to offset a bit of the difference between the league min and gardner’s remaining contract
LordD99
Probably the other way around. The Mariners might have to add a b prospect. Gardner is a starting MLB OFer who can legitimately play CF. Paxton is a 27 year old who has been a bit underwhelming, not to mention injury prone. I think the core of a deal can be made with these two players, but the Mariners would have to chip in something else.
JT19
Gardner also is on the wrong side of 30 with a skill set that doesn’t age well. I’ll pass on Paxton/Gardner straight up. If the Yankees throw in a b level prospect and a depth pitcher to fill Paxton’s spot then maybe. Plus Paxton has more value because of the fact that when healthy he’s shown to be a solid 2/3 option.
MB923
Age is the only advantage Paxton had (and $ I suppose, but in today’s era, $13 million for a 3-4 WAR player is a bargain)
I wouldn’t say Paxton has more value because he has yet to throw a full season. “When healthy” are the keywords (though Gardner has some injury history too), but he still puts up 3 WAR every year.
We shall see what happens.
LordD99
Yes. Paxton is younger, but beyond that the scales tip towards Gardner, who is controlled for three more years under his contract, plus a fourth year that is a club option. He is a 3 WAR player as a LFer, and can be higher in CF, a position he legitimately plays. Paxton also has four years, but he is really more about promise, yet he is already 27 and has not been healthy. I suspect the Yankees would say no as a straight swap.
Draven Moss
I wouldn’t do that deal if I were the Yankees. I would think a prospect haul would be better than Paxton at this point.
MB923
Perhaps, but I think Cashman’s goal is to improve the team for 2016 over improving the farm.
Draven Moss
Yeah, I understand that. I just think Gardner has more value than Paxton. Significantly so. If the Yankees can’t get more than that for him, I’d say the best bet would be to flip him for prospects and then use those prospects to get what they want. The prospects all together are likelier to have more value than Paxton IMO.
larrycole3
If they’re interested in trading for a CF, I know the Braves would be more than happy to entertain offers for Maybin.
MB923
O/T – Is it just me, or does any of you who comment through a mobile device have no way of Replying to a comment? I can only publish a new comment. This is back to the old format on my phone. (You can reply back which I can see, but can’t reply to. I assume those who reply back are doing so from a computer)

I’ve noticed that if you use a web browser on a mobile device, I cannot reply through the website.
However, you can reply through the Mobile App.

Wrong I am replying now
MB923
Yep as am I. Mods must have saw my comment.
MB923
Suddenly, this is fixed lol.
Andyman516
works fine here

Seeing how John Coppollela has reshaped our organization through surprising trades, I would not be surprised to see a headline soon that says “Braves Acquire Taijuan Walker for Cameron Maybin”. (See Touki Toussaint for reference)
frankiet91175 2
This isn’t PlayStation. This is real. No way does Maybin get you Walker. I guess it’s good to dream.
chop
Take it easy, that comment was mainly in jesting. I could see that as the backbone (with of course the Braves giving more) for a deal to work out.
JT19
They got Toussaint because they took Arroyo’s contract off Arizona’s hands. There is no obvious contract that the Mariners need to get rid of yet (especially if they’re trying to contend) and dealing Walker who still has plenty of potential and is their second best starting pitcher right now would be even more detrimental to the cause. And at that point I’d rather take Gardner since Maybin only has one decent season under his belt.
Bringbacktheblue
Lol.
chop
Congratulations. You’re the only one to get the joke.
JT19
Please Dipoto do not do a Paxton/Gardner straight up deal. He might have a slight injury history but when healthy he has shown to be a solid 2/3 option in the rotation. I’m not opposed to trading Paxton but if you’re going to do it, at least trade for a guy who isn’t on the wrong side of 30 with a skill set that doesn’t age well.

Paxton and Elias for Gardner and Miller
MB923
Lol. Zero chance the Yankees do that.
Andyman516
no way Elias has the ability to go deep in innings…
MB923
And Miller not only has the ability, but he Does close games out. After all he did get Reliever of the Year (though I think that should have gone to Davis. But I think you get what I’m saying). But Miller even had AA higher WAR than Elias in 50 less IP. Simple put, the Yankees are not trading one of the best relievers for a #4/#5 starter
Besides, I don’t think the Yankees will be after 2 starters, though of course I very well can be wrong.
harmony55
I witnessed a Roenis Elias complete game in which the lefthander retired Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in order in the ninth inning:

The Mariners should consider Eaton from the White Sox
seamaholic 2
Yeah, so should most of baseball. Eaton’s fantastic, and is one of only two keepers the White Sox have in their whole lineup. Good luck!
JT19
Wouldn’t be a bad idea but the White Sox like Eaton a lot and want to lock him up for the future (if they haven’t already, don’t remember). Maybe a Paxton some sort of cf for Eaton pitcher to replace Paxton could be a decent foundation for a deal if not the deal.
mdbaseball05
I would actually rather they go after trading for Marcell Ozuna than going for Gardner. He’d be a lot cheaper in terms of money.
jipp15
What would the Rangers get for Martin or Profar ? They don’t have much value since they’re coming back from injuries and neither see much if any playtime in 2015.
Ray Ray
Why not just try and sign Dexter Fowler or another FA CF instead of trading for someone else’s problem? You can always trade Paxton to upgrade elsewhere (catcher) if necessary.
JT19
Fowler has a QO attached and the Mariners have the first unprotected pick so that wouldn’t happen. Span would be the best fit for a FA CF with no QO but because he’s probably the best CF with no QO out there he might command an expensive contract depending on the market.
mdbaseball05
I think it comes down to where they want to spend their money and best options available. If they can get someone that is controlled and cheap like Ozuna via trade, then you have money to sign Free Agents to shore up other positions, such as getting another big bat OF’er or another pitcher.
I don’t know what they have to spend this offseason, but our OF is terrible, so I would rather see them trade for Ozuna, and then sign someone like Heyward or Upton. I personally think signing or trading for a big budget CF’er is not going to help us, and that $10+ M could be spend elsewhere.
harmony55
Dexter Fowler would cost the Mariners money, years and, most importantly, Seattle’s No. 11 pick in the June 2016 draft, which would be the highest draft pick ever surrendered for a free agent.
ryeandi
Thoughts on a Ender Inciarte for Paxton based trade? Inciarte is a fantastic CF who spends most time on the corners due to Pollock’s presence. He’s young, controlled, and a lefty. From someone that’s watched him daily I can say he’s still getting better.
seamaholic 2
Not bad. Depends on what the Dbacks think about Paxton’s injury history. Inciarte might be too much to give up if there are concerns (and there should be).
