Completely bold suggestion that is going to collect some negative responses:
D’Backs trade Goldschmidt and Owings to the A’s for Sonny Gray, Jesse Hahn and Fernando Rodriguez.
Move Yasmani Tomas to 1B, keep the OF of Pollock, Peralta and Inciarte.
Go with an infield of Tomas, Castillo, Lamb, Ahmed and Hill.
A rotation of Gray, Corbin, Ray, Hahn and Bradley/Shipley/Blair/Godley/DLRosa
Still a really good lineup with a much improved rotation and bullpen.

Not bad a idea but I don’t feel like Arizona would trade Goldy away and Gray’s low cost makes him almost invaluable. Also the A’s would probably need to trade Goldy in a year or two to prevent him from walking (with nothing but a draft pick coming back) since he would probably be too expensive to resign. Taking that into consideration, it would make more sense just to keep Gray and trade him for a massive haul (assuming both keep playing at their current level, if not better, I assume Gray would have more trade value than Goldy).

Also, as valuable as Goldy is, Arizona would definetly need to send pitching prospects back if the A’s are giving up two starters. Definetly bold, and would probably never happen, but creative.

A very bold idea, but I would think the Dbacks would want more for Goldschmidt. Gray is very good, and valuable but a middle of the order bat of Goldys caliber is worth a fair bit more in my opinion.

Tori Hunter signing with the Angels in 2007 is forever cemented as my thanksgiving memory. Calling my dad at 5am his time to tell him was certain not his favorite thanksgiving wake up though.

On November 26, 1996, the San Francisco Giants made two outstanding trades that reshaped the ballclub. First they traded Jamie Brewington to the Kansas City Royals for a PTBNL, and then traded Allen Watson and Fausto Macey to the Anaheim Angels for J.T. Snow. Two weeks later, San Francisco received Ramon Martinez from KC as the PTBNL.
Few backup players were more valuable than Ramon over the six years he played in San Francisco. The quintessential late-inning defensive replacement and spot starter at three IF positions, he could hit a little, too. The guy we gave up, Brewington, had already done all he was going to do.
And what a coup to trade Watson, a waste of a roster spot in 1996, for the golden-gloved Snow, whose mere presence at first base gave us the league’s best defensive infield. And though inconsistent with the bat, he still drew a lot of walks, drove in 100 runs in 1997, was awesome in the 2002 postseason, and hit .327 in 2004 when we needed someone to support Barry Bonds’ one-man show. This was an absolute steal of a trade, and a great day for the Giants all around. Considering also that the “loss” of Watson moved Shawn (19-5 in ’97) Estes into the rotation, we can say a large chunk of the 1997 NL West pennant was won on November 26, 1996.
