Making him an affordable extension may raise his value as well

They will make an offer and if he doesn’t take it he will probably be a Cub within 24 hrs

I’d love to see evidence of a precedent for that behavior.

Coincidentally, the Cubs have continually operated in this manner over the past several years. The key difference, though, is that the Cubs players were considerably closer to free agency….

Not unless the Cubs are offering one of Bryant/Soler/Russell/Schwarber. Odorizzi’s good, and cheap, and with a lot of control.

It could be that the Cubs, in order to part with Baez, want Odorizzi locked up with an extension before they do the deal.

That makes alot of sense. I wouldn’t think the rays would offer him an extension that team is almost run as poorly as the marlins post world series

Tell me more about the bottom 3 payroll club with a history of overperforming limitations being run poorly.

Agree.

Reports saying that they aren’t flipping after extensions.

Same move Tampa did with Longo, Archer, and Moore.

We will see. Imo if he signs what they offered Moore or Smyly get traded. If he counters with something much higher then the TB offer, he is the one getting traded.
