Yankees should have kept cervelli instead of McCann

I think the pirates are right to not extend cervelli. They have Diaz and McGuire two of the best catching prospects in the MLB rated at 4 and 6. They don’t need to keep him after the 2017 season when they are very confident that Diaz can step in and pick up where he left off.

the bucs should sign him. he said he would take 3/39. bump him down , might take 3/33 you now have a very desirable trade chip under contract for several years. if diaz stalls you have fc., if diaz pans out you trade him, a good catcher could bring back a haul of prospects. in todays market 11-13 mil for a good, borderline all star catcher is a risk worth taking.

Cervelli struggles with throwing out runners and has only had one healthy season. Giving him 3/33 would be a huge mistake. The Pirates are way too smart to hand out a contract like that.

Many catchers struggle with a specific aspect of their game. Cervelli is still one of the best overall catchers in the game, throwing out runners notwithstanding. 3/33 would be an absolute bargain for any team to take on Cervelli, even a team like the Pirates with limited financial resources.
