Gibby’s contract clause protects him from midseason firing by offering him job security for another year as long as he is still the manager when a new calendar year begins. As such, the earliest Wedge could manage the Jays is 2017. I’m hoping Wedge succeeds is his new position, but that Gibby is here for the long haul. Loves that guy.

I guess crystroman thinks Gibbons cant be fired because he is “protected” from it because his contract gets extended by a year? Haha ok Crysto whatever you say

Ya. I realized I was mistaken after I published. Can’t edit this stuff. He could still be canned although I’m hoping they have no reason to do so.

Shapiro absolutely loves Wedge. They finish each others’ sentences. He might do fine in player development, but he is in over his head as a major league manager. He’s the reason Cleveland traded Brandon Phillips to Cincinnati for a single A pitcher. I feel bad for Jays’ fans.

For the main reason being that I like seeing guys who pitched in the 90’s still around, it would be great to see a team take a flyer on Joe Nathan. Not too many 90s guys left at this point.

I wouldn’t mind if the Phillies signed Nathan to compete for the closer, his presence would definitely help the young bullpen guys develop

Wedge’s hiring “has the feel of manager in waiting,
This is a little good Sunday morning news.
Uncle gibby will be lost s/ AA’s whispering what to do and will probably end up with the Dodgers, hopefully before Spring Training,

There is another reason many of these veterans are not getting signed. The marginal production gained over a younger prospect is not worth the additional dollars the team would spend. That is not tanking, that is sound financial management. Of course, this is by teams not likely to contend. If you want to win it all, you have to be willing to spend that money for a win or two.
