As a high schooler, who wants to go into Sports (Baseball) management in college, this is literally the greatest thing EVER! MLBTR keeps getting better and better

Never thought I would say this, but suggestion!: stick to appropriating tweets about trades and/or rumors.

I respectfully disagree. I really liked this article, and hope to see more like this. If you’re anything like me, you check MLBTR about 40 times a day, and running across something off the beaten path is a nice change of pace once in a while.

Given that this is a quieter time for trades and signings, this was a great choice to fill the gap. I love the random TRAX reference…some of my favorite Dave Matthews live sets came from there in the early 90s.
Any teaser as to other interviews in the works?

Thanks! I don’t want to jinx anything, but we’ve got a few that seem likely to happen. Basically trying to get as many GMs as we can to start. I agree, April is often the time of year where we have little going on in terms of transactions, so we try to go a bit off our beaten path for original material.

Williams is maybe the preppiest, WASP-iest person in America.

Wonder how many 90-loss seasons they’ll let him have before they try something else?

I have to disagree with the poster who said “stick to appropriate tweets…” This is a fantastic interview and original series and it doesn’t take away from the core of the site at all.
Thanks for this Chuck and MLBTR. I love seeing things personal side of the game.

Glad you like it.
Those who aren’t interested could just choose not to read it. I don’t expect there will come a time when you’ll visit MLBTR and find ten of these posts occupying the entire front page.

Given that a certain % of MLBTR readership are industry people, this may appeal to them in a different way than the average fan. It is also a unique perspective that I haven’t seen much of out there in the media. Due to Moneyball, advanced analytics, and Big Data…the people in the offices are having a greater impact on the field than in previous decades, so I can understand why there may be more of an interest now.

awesome series. hope you keep it up

All this time I thought this was Dick Williams the fomer SD Padres manager, wasn’t til I saw the picture and googled out of confusion that SD D Williams passed almost 5 years ago. Glad to know its not a dead man running the Reds.

This is a really great idea for a series on this site. As someone that’s trying to work in baseball operations myself (I’ll be a freshman in the sport management program at Ohio University next year), this couldn’t be any more perfectly suited towards my interests.

I’m (obviously) not a Reds fan, but I thought that it was an interesting interview, and that this is a good idea for a series.
