How could a minority owner, i.e. someone who owns some portion of the team, buy a 90% stake with the previous majority owner retaining a 10% stake? Unless he owned like 0.01% as minority owner, which I guess is entirely possible.

He can buy 80% of the team to acquire a 90% stake. Nintendo keeps 10% of their original 90%.
They’re just switching ownership stakes.

This is great news NES seemed to be interested in profit over winning. They made a few big signings but were very cautious with most signings. Would not take a chance if it meant a possibility of not making a profit. Hopefully the new group will want to win a pennant more than just make money.

Local Seattle Times article says there are 17 minority owners with Nintendo. And Nintendo stake was 55% for controlling interest. 45% changed hands to the minority owners in some undisclosed portions. Around $690MM based on valuations, although the actual figures are undisclosed.
