We’re concerned with Keuchel who sports a 2.18 ERA? Amusing.

The six walks in the loss to Milwaukee were probably concerning, but he pitched extremely well against the Tigers last week. Here in the NY area, they’re freaking out about Matt Harvey already. Keuchel’s stats are way better.

Fangraphs stuff seldom holds up for long.
Dissecting a pitcher on April 18 and comparing him to a year ago is sort of ridiculous. Vendors have sold Tinker Toys to far too many people related to MLB, and the overabundance of data has gotten to a point where everything written and talked about relating to MLB looks like a Stan Fredberg comedy routine. Yesterday the tech-savvy manager of the tech-savvy Houston Astros asked for the ‘Infield Fly Rule’ to be called because the opposing 2B let the ball drop to throw out a faster runner at 2nd, and made the slow batter become the baserunner on 1st. Apparently the manager didn’t know that there have to be 2 or 3 runners on base for the infield fly rule to take effect. The game was held up for 5 minutes while he was arguing with the umpires. Maybe the next ‘pace of play’ panel the Commissioner puts together can recommend that managers know the rules in addition to all the complicated statistical data so they can put in complicated defense shifts that change every pitch…..which also holds up the game. With IPads in the dugout, are 4-5 hour games around the next bend?

I started reading and then realized it was another Samuel rant. Should have been smart enough to stop there, but I kept going and it was even more awful than normal. I guess managers making poor choices are somehow a result of sabermetrics now. *shrugs*

You use ERA as a good measure of a pitcher? Amusing.

He also has a 3.06 FIP and is averaging 7 innings a start, so it’s not like he has been terrible.

I know that Clay is just saying what he has to as a good teammate, but I have a hard time imagining that several other players weren’t just as offput as the fans were by Sandoval’s embarrassing display this spring.

Elite player?

Wasn’t it Ortiz that went out on a limb for the red sox to sign Panda? So shouldn’t he be the one that helps Panda get back into shape. We he signed the quote was to play with Ortiz because they were such good friends. Ortiz over came the weight so he would be the best mentor for Panda.
soxfan1
Please point out where you get that Ortiz advocated for Panda, that was all BenChers mistake
Samuel
I doubt that Cherington was behind all those excessive free agent signings. He had less power then it appears. Seemed to me to be a Larry Lucchino / John Henry thing, as it was when the Gonzalez trade was worked out between Henry and Stan Kashan, and when Carl Crawford was signed against Epstein’s wishes.

I don’t remember Papi saying to go after Panda. The one guy I remember him campaigning for the Sox to go after before this year was Nelson Cruz.

With Chisenhall returning, I think it makes sense to DFA Cowgill since he is only batting .111ish and it doesn’t mention anything about Jose Ramirez who has been getting a lot of playing time in LF. It doesn’t make sense to DFA any of the pitchers. There are too many OF on the roster.

Yea cowgill sucks
