I think we all knew this would happen. And it didn’t have to be a Cespedes either. It could’ve been an accumulation of depth moves. I wanted them to sign Asdrubal Cabrera do they’d have an additional lefty bat in the lineup and a more sure thing for above average production and a little bit of pop at 2B. Still, the tax isn’t calculated until the end of the season, so the club can still shed salary to get back under. But regardless I think this was inevitable.

I forsee a trade of Joe Smith and possibly Huston Street if the Halos fall from contention.

If they fall from contention? Angels are going nowhere but home after last day of the season
ryanw-2
If their offense is taking off that could be a different story because they do get some starting pitchers back pretty soon.

That and they could get something for Escobar if they decide to go that route. If CH Wilson can come back and be at least above average, they can shed some of his salary and get something for him. But if their offense is bouncing back to where it was in 2012-2014 they may just have to buy time for their rotation to get healthy. And if they’re still in contention, maybe there’s a trade that can still happen to get them back under without giving up too many wins. Or, just go for it. I think putting a lefty power bat in the 5 hole would really make a difference but how they do that is a whole other discussion.

They are getting NOTHING for Wilson. Sorry to burst your bubble
ryanw-2
What bubble? I was merely throwing ideas on the table.

and they $4. in taxes

They can easily get back under if things don’t work out by the deadline. Also, I don’t believe they pay that much in revenue sharing so the rebates they are forfeiting are probably not significant.

Trade Escobar to the Phillies for hellickson goedell #good trade
Philliesfan4life
I doubt the phillies would go for that trade, Hellickson is a free agent at the end of the year, I could see the angels going after him in the offseason.
ryanw-2
There’s no reason for the Phillies to go after Escobar. Perhaps the Yankees.
Philliesfan4life
Na , I don’t think the angels are going to trade escobar. I think they keep him for their 3rd basemen next year imo. I don’t see the yankees buying at the deadline, they will be sellers.
