I like it– I do. The Brewers are doing a good job trying to throw stuff at a wall and hoping that it sticks. That’s how they got Jeffress– This is a good strategy for rebuilding teams. They nailed down two high upside guys in Nolin and Rymer Liriano off of the DFA wire who could potentially work out once returning and Marinez has been a good piece down in AAA for Tampa for the past few years.

Agree. This is a part of player acquisition (DFA’d, released, waived and even independent league players) and player development that most teams do not take seriously.
Your scouts have to be thorough on all evaluations all the time (to know who is worth going after/bringing in) and your player development staff has to know what they are doing, but because a player has been DFA’d or released does not mean they have no potential.
There is more to acquiring talent than just drafts (rule 4 and rule 5), trades and high profile free agents

He’s so much better than Steve Geltz, Ryan Webb, and Dana Eveland, yet the Rays keep them on their roster and continue to use them. Marinez is not good either, but compared to these guys…
