Just want to add this cautionary tale to Montas..
Yes.. He’s got all the talent in the world with that blazing FB, always did the moment the Red Sox signed him. He, as well as another young Dominican they signed just a year earlier (Roman Mendez) seemed to have unlimited potential. Both could hit triple digits as teenagers, just needed to get a bit more command (common for kids that young) and learn to throw a secondary pitch that is consistently above average, much less a third pitch, if said kid is to be a starter.
Mendez had his chance with Texas.. Upper 90’s FB alone and inconsistent second pitch (slider) wasn’t enough. He eventually came back to Boston via waiver wire last year.
Montas? I seem to remember his issues (lack of better word) when with Boston was the same thing.. Inconsistent with his slider. Has that changed?

All of that may be true, except he was on the White Sox, not the Red Sox.

JohnSilver is correct: Montas originally signed with the Red Sox and was traded to the White Sox in the three-team Peavy deal.

Montas was part of the Jake Peavy trade to the Red Sox so he was originally in the Red Sox org.
