He signed his contract with the Marlins not the Blue Jays
padam
Yup.

He should sue Loria for causing the mental anguish in losing money being traded from Florida to Canada, causing him to beat his wife.
Thank you I’m here all night!

He initially signed his deal with the Marlins, not the Blue Jays

True

So he basically admits that even though the charges were dropped, he was guilty? What a great guy.
metsmaniac
Right. He took responsibility for his actions even though the charges were dropped. He’s apologized and vowed to be a better man and better husband. He deserves a second chance.

Ignoring how bad it is that MLB chose to re-employ him, on what planet is Asdrubal Cabrera a better SS than Jose Reyes? The Mets never cease to…amaze…
DanzigInTheDark
Cabrera’s hitting .264/.325/.411 and has played in every game this year for the Mets, while Reyes hit .274/.310/.378 last year while playing part of the season at Coors. Defensively, Cabrera has been on par with Reyes’ numbers last year (both slightly below league average), so why would you make a change for a guy who hasn’t played since the end of last year?
metseventually 2
Cabrera is staying at SS, Reyes will play 2B, 3B, LF. Maybe spell Cabrera at SS someday s.
stormie
On this planet, where Reyes’ defensive skills have deteriorated and his bat isn’t what it was once. And why should MLB not employ him? Are you suggesting a guy should get a lifetime ban from baseball for choking his wife?
murraysons
Let’s see if he hits the ball as hard as he hit his wife…. I’ll see myself out
krillin
Just another case of guilty until proven innocent, courtesy of mainstream media. In no way am I saying beating your wife is OK. But maybe, (everyone hold your breath here), just maybe, a spouse lies every once in awhile. The charges were dropped, he should have never been punished in the first place. I understand that the MLB is trying to send a message and maintain a good image, but come on. Way to be politically correct.

There was ample evidence suggesting he did it, and he has tacitly admitted it without fessing up to exactly what “terrible mistake” it is he made. There is absolutely no suggestion whatsoever that his wife lied. Seems pretty clear she had incentives not to testify, so they couldn’t prosecute him.
MLB and public opinion aren’t held to the same standard as a criminal court, so the lack of a conviction is largely immaterial … and certainly has next to no value in terms of moral assessment.
I hope you’ll seriously reevaluate the way you look at the world. There are plenty of cases where there’s real reason to believe someone is being unfairly judged or prosecuted or mistreated. We’ve heard nothing to suggest this is one of those cases, either from him or from other sources of factual information about the matter. You might also consider that you are actually being manipulated by your own mainstream media.
