Neil Walker felt he deserved special treatment just because he’s from the Pittsburgh area. He felt as if that increased his value. And he was also unwilling to move off second base his last year in Pittsburgh to help the Pirates field a better team. Glad the Bucs moved the declining Walker.
No Soup For Yu!
Walker is in the middle of the best season of his career in one of the more pitcher friendly parks in baseball. How is he declining?

Agree. Personally I like the more athletic Josh Harrison at second in spite of the errors. Better average, more speed and without the risk of a long term deal Walker was seeking.

As a fellow Bucs fan, I have to respectfully disagree. I don’t believe Walker ever said he felt that he deserved special treatment or even acted as if that was the case. I also don’t think Neil Huntington and the front office erred either. It simply was not a situation that was going to work in Pittsburgh. The Pirates have Josh Harrison locked up long term as well as Alen Hanson waiting in the wings. It would make no sense for the Pirates to make a long term financial commitment to Walker. So with just one year of control left, it made sense to trade him and get something in return.
Whether the Pirates got fair value for Walker is a different discussion, but given NH’s track record, it would be prudent to let Niese’s Pirate tenure play out before grading the trade

The declining Neil Walker.. in the midst of one of his best seasons.
You’re glad they moved Neil Walker for Niese? Do you watch baseball?

It’s also not like Neil is a defensive liability at 2nd. In fact, by UZR standards he is doing excellent (2.5) and only -1 DRS this season with 1 error. While Josh Harrison has 6 errors with a -1.3 UZR although an excellent DRS. I would argue there is no need to move Walker with his production.

As a Phillies fan, I’m torn on the top pick. Since no one ran away with things to be the no doubt about it guy, I’d lean towards whoever out of the top handful of guys (Lewis, Moniak, Puk, Ray) I can get for the lowest price to re-invest those savings in the 2nd and 3rd round picks to land a top sign or 2.
At the moment I lean towards Moniak at 1, but what do I know. I like what you did with getting the Phillies a player at 42 that BA ranks 13th. Exactly what I hope happens with the 1st pick’s hopeful savings.

Braves ain’t going Puk. If they draft Puk, imma lose my mind. HUGE waste of a high draft pick.

Thought you weren’t a braves fan
TDKnies 2
So when can we expect Trea Turner to actually get called up (like for good)? Trying to avoid super 2 at this point? Or has that already passed since I don’t follow these projected dates all that well and the Nats are just being weird?
chesteraarthur
There’s no set day for super 2 like there is for the extra year of control.

I think as a general trend though, you want to limit them to about 130 days of service in the first year to lower the chance of it.
