I don’t see anyway he gets a Qualifying Offer now. He will probably be out at least 6-8 weeks. Maybe even for the season.

Even healthy all year, I wouldn’t have QOed him unless he could have repeated his ’15 season. What’s a 2016 QO ? $16mm ? That money is better spent elsewhere. Tex is a fine human being and there is a permanent offer out there for him for free dinner, but NYY needs to move on or sign him for $2-3mm for ’17…

I second that, Greg Bird hit 11 HR in 157 ABs. He will be the everyday 1B and Tex at best would be backup and DH some, but New York should use romine as backup 1B and carry 3 catchers Romine, Sanchez, and McCann and let Tex walk.
costergaard2
I agree with you and McCann is also in the 1b/backup c mix. Love his bat and his leadership, but he is into his 30’s he shouldn’t catch forever…
Josh Hambilly
Yanks should get consider a trade with the Rangers for Mitch Moreland to shore up 1b.
They’d probably pay a big chunk of his salary to make way for Gallo.
He’s in his last year and is needs something to shock him out of his doldrums.
He was awesome last year.
He’d be a great platoon vs RHP when Tex returns since Tex has been sucking.

I Would Actually Trade Some Lower Level Prospects & Maybe Some Cash Considerations For Either Paul Goldschmidt,Jose Abreu,Miguel Cabrera Or Albert Pujols.

What are you smoking?
scottnyy24
If, by, “some cash considerations” you mean $100M, then yes, perhaps. Sheesh
MB923
I wouldn’t quite count on Bird being an everyday 1B. Or at least not a Productive everyday 1B. But he certainly would be more productive than Tex.
Sanchez is still on the DL by the way.
yanks02026
Did you see Bird play last year. The guy did great in his short time.
MB923
Yes but he’s coming back from a significant injury. I’m not saying he Won’t be as productive as he was in his short time up, but there’s no guarantee he will.
jp08
From my understanding, he was injured and sat out time earlier in 2015 for his shoulder. Then he played and during the winter it was stated he needed shoulder surgery. Unless he injured his shoulder further once the season had ended, I would have to think he played injured. Unless I missed something in the timeline that is… My point being, it may do him some good to get the surgery and sit out a full year.
mvpetro
Tough loss glove wise. But they probably can get similar if not slightly better production out of refsynder and parmelee with the bat.
Bronx Bombers
Ackley, Tex and Bird are out. Not sure if you subscribe to LuHud but they said Girardi was going to talk to Cashman about getting a 1B man. With McCann out also Romine can’t play first. They could move Headley to first and let Castro play 3rd or SS, Didi at SS, Ref at 2nd.
A-Rod, Beltran and Headley can cover first in a pinch. But I see why Girardi called for an emergency meeting.
Bronx Bombers
Just read LoHud was referenced here but Loney would have been nice. Might’ve been the most consistent hitter in our lineup.

Act fast, Cubs! Jorge Soler and slugging MiL 1B Dan Vogelbach for Andrew Miller!
jp08
Lol, can New York throw in Chapman as well. Greg Bird hit 11 HR in 157 AB. He will be the everyday 1B next year.
DEK59
Sounds like season ending plus the neck injury and not even batting his weight. Please let him go!!!!

What about if the Phillies pay the buy out on Ryan Howard’s contract and the Yankees make a deal for him ?
mike156
gasp
supertrucker247
Just eat the contracts of the old farts (Tex & AFraud) and get rid of them. Move Beltran to DH and bring up the young guys. It couldn’t hurt
DEK59
I agree, you have to pay them anyway. The team might have a better mindset with them gone as well as most fans
basemonkey 2
There’s a pretty decent chance last night was Tex’s last game as a Yankee. That is, if he gets surgery.
