So the Yankees want better prospects back for Chapman than the ones they gave up? C’mon, I think just about anyone sitting in their basement could come up with that assessment of what the Yankees want for Chapman. Where is the breaking news Cafardo?!
stillhitting10031
is common sense don’t you think? ..4-5 teams are getting desperate for bullpen help .. he value went up , plus the yankees gave up they #6 #14 #29 and a bullpen arm for him ..keith law said the yankees should ask for lopez and difo nats #5 and #6
bigjonliljon
They won’t get a better package. What a joke. Half a year doesn’t equal a full year
stillhitting10031
full year? .. everybody knew he was getting suspended why you think the dodgers back down from that trade?
josc2
If the market pushes up the price that can very well happen regardless of whether he’s a two month rental or not.
Austin0723
I say Sox should get Hill and Hellickson and maybe Reddick and maybe another reliever
jlivers77
Boston will be lucky to get Rich Hill and Reddick makes no sense.
Austin0723
We need another outfielder and he’d only be a rental I’m pretty sure his contract is up after this year
stymeedone
What should they trade to take in that haul, Austin?
pickandersen
Reddick makes no sense at all.
Ed Charles
Phillies and Boston don’t make good trade partners. Boston tried taking the cheap forever last year in the Hamels talks…How’s Swihart working for you Boston ? To let that kid hold back a Hamels deal, which led to Boston OVER PAYING for Price… Idiocy. Phillies should keep Hellickson, if he can be resigned at a good deal.
onlyringsmatter
Swihart is injured now but when healthy he is very good,And Phillies wanted Mookie Betts also.LOL
stl_cards16 2
How is Swihart very good when healthy? They’ve shown they don’t think he’s a catcher and his bat doesn’t play nearly as well as a corner outfielder. They missed their chance at selling Swihart at peak value.
staypuft
Boston is under different management now (DD).
Yes, they gave Price a ton of money, but they can afford it and didn’t have to give up players to obtain him.
Everyone thought Swihart was going to be that good. Hindsight is 20/20, using it doesn’t make you smarter than anyone else.
Bruin1012
As usual uninformed people making comments on Swihart thinking he is a bust which is complete lunacy. Swihart will more than likely be the Sox catcher of the future he was rushed to the Majors in 2015 and performed admirably was actually one of the best hitting catchers in baseball by ops in the second half last year. He has a sweet swing and will hit in the bigs. He is a good athlete and will be at least average defensively and well above average for a catcher offensively.
stl_cards16 2
So if the Sox believe he is the catcher of the future, why were they playing him in LF in AAA?
Maybe we’re not informed, so maybe you could explain why they would have a catcher with some defensive question marks NOT working on his DEFENSE? If they really believed he was going to stick there, wouldn’t you want him to get as much development time as possible?
Sorry dude, the Sox don’t believe he’s a catcher.
trace
You must knows all the ins and outs within the Red Sox organization.
Eric D.
When you have two elite defensive catchers in your organization in Vazquez and Hanigan, it makes alot of sense to have your most offensive minded catcher learn a second position. It only makes him more valuable. The idea that he is a bust is ludicrous especially before he even has a full season under his belt. Look how long it took JBJ to hit his stride?
SoCalBrave
I don’t believe that most people think Swihart is a bust. He’s just not gonna be a catcher, which diminishes his value. I think he’ll have a nice productive MLB career as an outfielder/DH. Just not the perennial Allstar he was said to be.
Eric D.
His defense is just fine, he will stick at catcher. It’s not like he is JP Arencibia.
Bruin1012
I don’t think Swihart has lost any trade value and I am quite sure that any team that trades for him will value him as a catcher. I also think the Red Sox still value him as a catcher. I also don’t think the Sox will trade him. If the sox trade him for someone like Rich Hill then I guess I’m wrong and they didn’t value him as a catcher.
silverton99
Bruin1012 ur correct about swihart somewhat but yes they are misinformed. He will not b our catcher other than maybe a serious back up. My guess is he will be LF or even first base after Ortiz leaves an Hanley goes to DH. Ppl we don’t need to trade for pitcher right now. We have guys who just need experience. Price/wright/porcello will do their jobs. No one has 5 studs. Erod an either back to buchholtz or Henry Owens or Brian.
Also we don’t need to trade for outfielder we have guys hurt who r coming back. Be smart fans not idiots. Or at least know ur prospects an what they can do for this organization. Look what betts an xman have done by not trading them.
Speak da Truth
He is gonna be a catcher!!
the Sox are using him in Lf because they have better defensive catchers infront him.
swihart just started catching a few years ago what do you expect?
he wasn’t even a catcher in high school Sherlock he played Ss.
and the Sox still have him practice catching before games and still expect him to be a catcher later on down the line.
He will be a good catcher once he plays the position more and learns everything there is about catching.
and no he still hasn’t missed his chance yet or lost value.
because he is young as all hell and still got hella time left to learn.
you wait and see he’s gonna be a really good catcher for years to come.
BadCo
Think too many are passing judgement. On Mr Swiehart… Had trouble with the knuckleballer … Remember once upon a time a catcher
Named Veritek had trouble with Wakefield
bigjonliljon
Don’t know why the braves should trade Teheran. Isn’t the purpose to get players back to improve there team? Your gonna trade a guy for 4-5 guys whom you hope one of them equal him? Can’t see them getting that back
Ken M.
Why trade FHOF Teheran for lottery tickets? Makes no sense…
bsteady powers
fHOF? slow your role!
bravesfan1234
They are hardly lottery tickets. Haven’t you been paying attention? Boston’s farm is a magical place that produces all-stars and hall of famers by the truckload. They are sure things if they come from Boston.
Bruin1012
FHOF Teheran that’s funny.
Austin0723
Either way I don’t see them winning a World Series anytime soon since how much their division has been improving
SoCalBrave
the only way the Braves trade Teheran is if the get a MLB ready controllable power hitter and a pitching prospect with a fairly good upside. Boston won’t trade Benintendi or Moncada, Texas won’t trade Gallo, so there aren’t many other options out there.
stymeedone
Absolutely correct. Outside of Texas and Boston, there just aren’t any teams looking for young, inexpensive, controllable, quality starters. Even if there were, only Texas and Boston have power hitting prospects.
Actually, I think there are 27 other teams that might have an interest.
Matt Galvin
Yankees can give up Severio and Judge to Braves.
MB923
Well sadly Judge is now out 4-6 weeks but there are other teams who are desperate for SP that can beat that offer such as the Sox if they are willing to include someone like Benintendi or Moncada (plus others)
At this point , the Yankees should be sellers anyway
The Ghost of Bobby Bonilla
I’ve been saying for months that Odorizzi is a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. Controllable for 3 more years and slots in nicely as a #2/3/4 until the young guys get some experience.
What would it realistically take to get him? Would Tampa take a Kingham, Newman, Ramirez package?
Eric D.
Im sure if it was Teheran it would take Glasnow, Meadows, and McGuire to make the Braves npt hang up the phone
Philliesfan4life
That would be a nice fit for Odorizzi , but no way they give up a Taillon , Glasnow or Khul for him. Kingham would have to get the deal started even though he just had tommy john surgery
arc89
One thing I hate about writers is making statements that is stretching the truth. Rich Hill never said he prefer to return to Boston recently. He said that in 2015 before signing a FA contract this year.
Connor Byrne
In fairness to Cafardo, he didn’t claim Hill said anything. Cafardo wrote, “Coming back to Boston would likely be Hill’s No. 1 choice, but he’s not saying that publicly.”
arc89
That is not the quote they posted here. With Hill’s age my bet is he wants to play for any team that has a great chance going to postseason.
AngelFan69
Whoever ends up taking Joe Smith… Please take Fernando Salas as well…
stymeedone
Yeah, I’m sure the Angels will get back a lot for either of those two.
angelsinthetroutfield
lol if we get something for Salas it will be a helluva move by Eppler. Likely have to package him with someone who has value or take a flyer on an A-ball prospect.
If I’m in the LAA front office I’m targeting young position players in areas of need. Guys who’s value may have dropped in their orgs. Kolten Wong from the Cards, Michael Conforto from the Mets, ect.
I’d like to see Cowart get a longer look at 3B too (his glove is valuable enough by itself)
Dangle Yunel, Street, Smith, Salas, Hector, Shoe, and Soto. If you get value for any pull the trigger
fighterflea
to the Red Sox:
J. Hellickson, Jeanmar Gomez, Adam Morgan, Andres Blanco, Peter Bourjos and 2B/SS -Malquin Canelo
to the Phils:
Clay Buchholz, P – Michael Kopech, P – Brian Johnson, 1B – Josh Ockhimey, Brock Holt, OF – Yoan Aybar and OF – Kyri Washington
conaboya
So the phils give the sox every trade piece of any value for a return of all of the sox’ trash, besides kepesh? No thanks.
braves4life1
Red Sox trade Moncada, Benentindi, and Swihart to Braves for Teheran, Vizcaino, and Albeis.
onlyringsmatter
You want Mookie and Xander too maybe?
adshadbolt
Why would the sox want Albies they have an elite second baseman in pedroia and an elite shortstop in bogarts. And their not going to put him at third because he dosent have any power. They what are they gonna do throw him in the outfield oh can’t do that there outfield is full so they trade him. At that point I would rather not have Tehran and put moncada at third and Benitendi in left and let swihart catch because Vasquez cannot hit or they trade swihart and others not named moncada, Benitendi, Espinosa for the pitcher they need that is probably better that Tehran any way.
BoldyMinnesota
Pedroia elite? I didn’t know it was 2009
Bruin1012
Pedroia is still far above average and I think the point was that the Sox don’t need Albeis they are set at the positions he Albeis plays.
chesteraarthur
Keep posting that trade, it’ll surely make it happen.
slider32
Yanks will be sellers with Chapman and Beltran and should also consider trading McCann, Gardner, and Eovaldi. They should be able to pick up some good talent .
davidcoonce74

JoeyPankake
Bravo
silverton99
All of that is ridiculous. It’s not fantasy league gesh
davidcoonce74
You are apparently unfamiliar with the work of a certain poster here. I would advise you to browse the comments sections for a bit. His trades put my jokke proposal to shame, because that guy does his homework. It’s quite amazing.
JoeyPankake
The difference is that you can actually read this one.
MikePLV10
^perfect!
jp08
Who gets Trout, or does he start his own team and pick players to play with him?
aff10
If the Braves threw in Matt Marksberry to the Indians, pretty sure they’d get Clint Frazier, Bradley Zimmerman (even though that’s technically not a real player), and Will Benson. Other than that, seems fair
Trevor 3
Do my O’s get anything? Oh, we don’t have anything. Sorry…my bad
