Some smart moves and the Rays will be beyond set up for the future. Even better than the Braves and lesser extent, the Padres.

I feel Houston makes the most sense for Sale with Keuchel struggling and a truly deep farm system
Brandon Sans
2016 and Jake Arrieta, R.A. Dickey, Dallas Keuchel, and Corey Kluber all have Cy Young Awards. Who predicted that 5 years ago?
Priggs89
Houston is the first team I’d be calling if I was Rick Hahn
Connorsoxfan
Or the Sox. DD is very willing to make these kinds of moves, and they have Moncada, Benintendi, Devers, etc.
Priggs89
They would be a very close #2 on my list.

Sale for Schwarber, Baez and Solar. Cubs get one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball, without affecting their starting lineup. Chi-Sox get their DH, SS and RF. Win-Win, the players don’t even have move.
brandons-3
That’s a pretty fair trade. If the White Sox ask for more, they’re asking for too much. If the Cubs offer less, they won’t get Sale and just will continue to have this surplus of hitters. I’d pull the trigger, gotta give talent to get it.
brandons-3
Another plus for the Cubs is that it guarantees you’ll have an ace for the foreseeable future with an eventual Lester decline and the looming free agency of Jake Arrieta, also allowing Theo to shop Jake if he so chooses this winter.
Priggs89
Get rid of Soler and add 2-3 top prospects, and you might have them interested.

Agreed. As good as Schwarber hits, he’s done for the year and seems destined for a 1b/DH role. There is no guarantee he returns to normal after his injury, so his value is not nearly as high as it was after the postseason. His value is still high, and I’m a huge fan of him (and not a Cubs/White Sox fan, so theres no Chicago bias here) but I think its crazy seeing some people suggest he’s valuable enough (right now) in a 1-for-1 deal. Maybe next year, after he returns, and proves he’s healthy and is still swinging as good as ever, but I would be extremely reluctant to take him in a deal (where there isn’t more upside players in the deal) to trade a star player for him.
And in response to what @BrandonSans said, while I agree that if the White Sox asked for a bit more, they would be asking for too much, but its totally justifiable when you’re talking about one of the top pitchers in the league who also happens to be young and team controlled for another couple of years.

Schwarber has a ton of value, all reports are he’s healing well, you can see him bouncing around in the dugout. The Yankees were willing to give up Miller and Chapman for him, (maybe even throw in Beltran as well), and the Cubs said no way.

I really think the WS return for sale should in large part depend on their other plans.
If you’re gonna try for a quick rebuild, going after a schwarber/baez/soler type package makes some sense. However, if they actually plan to try for a youth movement, it’d make more sense to look at a prospect driven trade more so.
I’m not sure what their plan is or if they even really have a set one, but I think their thought process will drastically change what they are looking for in a deal.
1tav
Don’t forget that all 3 of those guys are relatively young with a lot of control left. They could try the quick rebuild, and if that doesn’t work, they could still flip some or all of them later for younger assets.
stymeedone
NEVER HAPPENED.
Priggs89
Knowing the way they operate, the main pieces in the deal will be major league ready or close to it. They won’t do a full out, long-term rebuild.
1tav
Don’t forget how hitter friendly the Chi-Sox park is. If everything fell right, those 3 guys alone could provide 100 HR’s in a single season. Schwarber 50, Baez 30, and Solar 20. Perhaps unlikely, but is possible.
chesteraarthur
The sox park would equally benefit all potential hitting prospects. Not sure why that matters.
1tav
A smart GM Taylor’s his team to fit his home ball park. If you have a hitters park, you gather as many boppers as possible. If you’re in Yankee stadium, you to get left handed pull power, and LHP. If you’re the Cards of the ’80’s you collect speed, defense and pitching for the old art turf Busch Stadium.
1tav
Cubs starting rotation of Sale, Arrietta, Lester and Hendricks, with that offense would look pretty daunting to any team they face in the playoffs.
Philliesfan4life
I believe texas will be getting sale. The cubs just need a lights out bullpen arm like miller and chapman and I think they are set.
1tav
I’m not sure if Hammel has any controllable years left on his contract, but if he does, the Cubs could than trade him to the Yankees for Chapman and Beltran.
Priggs89
Lol why would the Yankees do that?
Connorsoxfan
Because the Yankees need pitching for this year and beyond.
Priggs89
Seeing as how he’s bad when he’s not on the Cubs, is 33 years old, and only has 1 year left on his deal, I don’t see a fit. Let’s not forget that his value is nowhere near Chapman’s, let alone Chapman AND Beltran.
1tav
I didn’t realize Hammel only has one year after this one left. But I still think, given the premium price that starters are now bringing, he is worth at least a 2 month rental of Chapman alone. Don’t forget the Yankees will probably try to sign Chapman this off season.
benchguy1
I thought next year was a club option for Hammel. Can be wrong though.
chesteraarthur
it is
Priggs89
He’s not even close to being worth 2 months of Chapman. He’s not a very good pitcher when he’s not on the Cubs, and he’s old. They want prospects.
steelerbravenation
The Braves are going to snag Sale. Package of Inciarte, Jenkins, Toki, Newcomb & Ruiz. I think that could get it done.
MatthewBaltimore23
Why would the Braves do that with all of their pitching prospects? I know he’s great, but they would just lose depth.
