The fact that two of their “top bring spots” are players with negative WAR (Tomas / Drury) is pretty reflective of how dreadful they are and how poor their decisions have been.
TheMichigan
I think that’s because of defense, they have been pretty solid offensively
TheMichigan
Can’t Drury catch? As a person I was never sold on Wellington Castillo, he’s an average guy who bats average, couldn’t they trade Castillo and use Drury as the primary catcher to get him regular at bats? Or will Drury get a spot in the outfield?

Never mind I’m thinking about Peter O’brien, I feel like an idiot.

Unforgivable

I have been a fan of Peter O’Brien since his days as a Yankee farm hand. Unfortunately, he is absolutely dreadful behind the plate. If he was able to be even a below average catcher he would already be in MLB. I hope he gets traded to an AL team because his bat should be good enough to hold down a DH job somewhere. The guy has massive power and compares to Mark Trumbo very well.

Really hard to say Tomas has been a positive for this season when he’s been maybe the worst defender in baseball.

Matt Kemp is offended
Caldwell 2
As is Robbie Grossman
Jeff Todd
His offensive performance was really good in the second half, as Jason wrote. A legit slugger with no glove is better than a terrible defender who is also a terrible hitter. And Jason specifically noted the concept of trying to get out from under some salary by shipping him to the AL.
Feel free to disagree, but it’s fair to raise your objections to the actual points presented.

The Segura trade will be a steal for the brew crew
vonjunk
Please explain why and how the Brewers will get the best of this trade.
Jean Segura looks like a controllable All-star in the deal. Aaron Hill’s salary relief helped the DBacks sign Tyler Clippard (whom they received two decent prospects for). Hill was traded to the Red Sox for a bag of balls, Anderson pitched well enough and Diaz may be good.
If Segura remains an affordable All-Star with something in the range of 3-5 WAR (he has a 5.5 WAR so far this year), how will the Brewers get a steal? To compare, Anderson produced 1.0 for the season. I know WAR isn’t everything, but it is helpful in getting a gauge on player value. Segura has been among the best in baseball. In fact, he may be the Diamondback’s MVP this year. Really!

That had to be a troll comment. Seguras been a bright spot on Arizona this year, Milwaukee will need Diaz to be a perennial allstar to win this trade

Actually, I think the pitcher the Sox traded for Hill was actually solid. He was having a good year at triple A, and there were rumors of them calling him up since this was when they had that 5 spot open for spot starts. Pretty sure he made “Knocking on the Door” prior to being traded as well. Blanking on his name though.

Way too early to decide who won this deal. D’backs got an outstanding bounce back season from Segura but remember he had two mediocre seasons with the Brewers before being shipped away to clear room for Arcia and to a certain extent, Villar. Brewers had no need for Segura anymore. Brewers got pitching depth in Anderson and by trading away Hill, they received Wilkerson who adds even more depth to the rotation. Can never have enough pitching. Toss in the promising season Diaz has had in A ball and it seems like a fair deal. Nobody fleeced anybody in this one.
