No way Moss is worth a QO, st louis should let him go
STLCards33
You must not watch must cardinals baseball. I’d much rather them give a QO to moss. And decline holidays option

Might be better off offering it as a hedge to Holliday leaving, then moving Gyorko and the 16m they are on the hook for since he put up fair numbers this season and using Peralta again next year in his final season before he walks, Fix the issues they have and see if someone is willing to give Moss a Contract, not as if it hasn’t happened before and his numbers are comparable to Holliday’s, plus he’s 4y younger. Cost would be the same.. Let Holliday walk, or come back at less if he wants.

trade peralta this off season and get something for him.

I’d trade Joey Wendell for him straight up

No such thing as a bad 1year contract

Dexter Fowler’s agent disagrees

What the post fails to mention is what Moss brings, in terms of culture, to this Cardinal team. Moss has value well beyond his long balls and low obp. The question in play is how much is that worth to the club?
I think the cardinals catch a break if they land him on a QO. I think, in the end, they sign him to a 2 or 3 deal in the 36-42 range.

I could make a case that Moss would be a perfect fit in Milwaukee. Adding a LH slugger would balance out a mostly RH lineup and enable them to deal either Braun or Carter or platoon with Santana in RF. A lineup with Braun, Carter, Moss/Santana, Villar, Perez, Arcia, and either Broxton or top prospect Brinson in CF, might not be able to compete with the Cubs just yet but it could put the Brewers in position to compete for wild card as soon as 2017,. It’s not like the Brewer system is still in dire need of restocking. It’s pretty good right now.
Downside is that Moss hasn’t exactly been stellar in Miller Park, so there’s risk involved.

Chances are Moss will probably resign with the Cards, but he could potentially fit on a number of teams. I’m thinking if the Jays don’t resign Encarnacion, Bautista or Saunders, Moss would be a nice option for them as he could play corner OF, a bit of 1B, and DH.

The Phillies would make a ton of sense in signing Moss to replace Howard, and would see some time in the OF as well.
A 2 year deal would be ideal and the Phillies can overpay for anyone they want as they go into 2017 with just a $25 million dollar payroll.
Although a cheaper option would be Luis Valbuena, who would be able to play 3b, 2b and 1b.

Have the QO terms changed? He’s put up 1.6 WAR in < 400 PAs. I would gladly take something like a 1Y/16MM or a draft pick for Moss. Will be disappointed if he isn't QOed.
guinnesspelican
I think that is exactly are what the cards are looking at. The debate might be is that there might be a better value in a 2 year deal. If you could score him for 25 for 2 years is that better for the club as opposed to giving him a Q.O.?
Might be a gamble for another club with the Q.O. with the loss of that teams’ draft pick for a 33 year old and a recent injury history?
astrostl
The two aren’t mutually exclusive, as I understand it: you offer the QO, then proceed to negotiate a multi-year deal if it’s declined. And if that doesn’t work out, draft pick.
guinnesspelican
You are correct. What was rare, up until last year, was a player accepting a Q.O. I assumed a scenario with Moss declining the Q.O. so he could seek that multi year deal with another club.
I see Moss, as the category of player, who potentially declines a Q.O. and sits, without a contract, until the all-star break of 2017 because of that other team’s loss of their draft pick.
