Not sure why they wouldn’t just shut Gray down unless they were planning to trade him in the offseason. And even then a one or two inning start isn’t likely to rebuild much value.

I’m pretty sure it’s a confidence thing on Grays request. End the season with an inning or two in the bigs to finish on a high note.

They and their doctors probably feel him throwing 20 pitches in a game this week won’t make him less healthy and less effective next April.

It is not like playing or resting Harper is going to have much of an impact on the outcome of the Nationals season and their home-field advantage.
