If MM has his way Wacha will start no matter how ineffective. love to see Wacha back effective but who knows what u get..
Mikel Grady
Wacha was a beast until they rushed him back and he gave up the walk off against Giants in playofffs. And of course against my Cubs when I was at wrigley this year . Grrr
legit1213
Wacha needs to build up shoulder strength, then work out of the bullpen. Maybe a long-man type scenario. And please Mo, let Garcia walk. Trying to trade just sends the message that he’s no longer effective. Problem is…every other team knows that already, and wants to buy low.

Better to get something than nothing

What people forget about Garcia is this the first season he was healthy in a long time. He started the season very good. Threw a two hitter in like his fifth game of the year. He wore out about 3/4 of the way and it really showed. Another full season (healthy hopefully) and he could be a number 2. Molina says he has the best movement on his pitches of anyone on the staff when he’s full strength.

Last sentence on the Salazar info should read that “Salazar won’t be pushed” not Santana. Thanks for the good info though. I am sure the Jays are happy to not see him in the ALCS.

Whoops, fixed.
cardfan2011
Again, it makes sense to retain Garcia so he can be traded. Wacha seems like the odd man out for me, and Weaver needs some polish. I hope the rotation is Martinez, Waino, Lynn, Leake and Reyes
makaio6
You aren’t gonna get much for Garcia in a trade and may even have to eat some salary. Let him walk.
cardfan2011
You overlook the fact that the free agent market is very thin on pitching, and he’s a lefty, so he has his appeals.
tim815
I’m glad when teams prioritize health of the player. The competitor will always want to compete. It’s nice when the team gets it right for the player.
That said, go teams with C on their hats.
tim815
Maybe it’s me, but the Cardinals might have some very interesting 40 Man roster decisions. I don’t know who all they have on the bubble as far as being rostered, but Magneuris Sierra is an interesting call.
Especially since nobody knows if the 25 Man roster becomes a 27 Man roster this winter. Which would completely change the standard that would need to be reached to be rostered.
Cardinals17
I like the rotation of Martinez, Wainwright, Lynn, Reyes and someone in this group (Garcia, Leake, Wacha, or Weaver). Whoever doesn’t start in that group should be up for trade.
cardfan2011
Leake has a full no-trade clause on his contract so the Cards are stuck with him, and therefore has to start. When you’re paying a guy that much he’s a starter

Sorry about replicating it my iPhone is messed up

It’s the iOS app I think… commenting is wonky as heck sometimes.

Right! Don’t forget really he’s here because Wainwright will be gone in a couple of years
guinnesspelican
If only the Cardinals brass and fans had their wish for last years postseason rosters moves? David Price would be in the conversation and how we begin to unload that tragedy.
Sometimes the best wishes are best left not granted.
RoadRunner1938
Glad the Cardinals didn’t sign Price hes overrated and can’t pitch in the playoffs
guinnesspelican
I’m glad now? I have to admit I was kinda bummed when we didn’t get him.
Wainofan
Of that group, I’d trade leake to Arizona for just about anything we could get. He’d waive his NTC because he most wanted to play in Arizona in the first place. Then I’d have wacha, weaver, rosenthal and Marco Gonzales competing for the last spot. Leave was one of the few mistake moves Mo has made.
andyb
Interesting idea, how about a Zach Grienke for Leake, both are overpaid and both disappointed but there’s way more upside in Grienke.
Wainofan
Or id package weaver, bader, Wong or gyorko plus another prospect for longoria and odorizzi
calikid13
Longoria is going to cost something like Adams, Flaherty (or Weaver) and DeJong. He’s still a 4-5 WAR player and heart of the order bat for a good price in today’s baseball economy.
playhard9
Sad that $80 million gets you an average starter but Leake was painful to watch. Too bad we are now stuck with him. Please say no to Garcia. He has decent games but always against scrub teams. When it matters and against good teams, he craps the bed. He will NEVER be a number 2 starter. Buh-bye Jaime!!
cardfan2011
To be fair, it’s as Mo said; there were games where Jaime pitched and looked like a number 1 or 2 starter, and nights where the manager wanted to punch Mo. Obviously we saw more poor performances but there’s still some value in him that could be used as trade bait
calikid13
Leake is a ground ball specialist. It doesn’t help when your infielders are atrocious at execution and have no range.
RoadRunner1938
Weaver should back in AAA, Wacha shoulder will never be right either put him in the pen or deal him maybe in a package & Garcia needs to walk don’t give him 12mill to just trade him wont get enough back and will be stuck with part of the contract which could go to signing Cespedes, Fowler or Desmond.
Wainofan
I’d rather avoid those three. Unless we get a cf and trade grichuk in the deal, then maybe one for lf. All three are weak in CF and I don’t see them as a fit in the Cardinal Way
relic
I think a rotation of Martinez, Wainwright, Lynn, Leake and Reyes is fine.
Weaver goes to AAA, and Lyons and Wacha serve as long-relief arms in the ‘pen.
I’m happy with this.
calikid13
I see Mo going after Jarrod Dyson and Longoria. Hopefully signing Melancon.
