Don’t worry about right field. Rickard/Mancini will be fine, outfield is an easy position to learn. Worry about Machado’s contract and sign him NOW
mstrchef13
They won’t use Mancini in the outfield. If they had any notion he could play out there, it would have been him in the OF in Norfolk this past season and not Walker. If Mancini makes the team next year, it will be as a RH DH and bench piece.
RoadRunner1938
Machado will not sign, hes going to be smart and hit free agency then get paid!

What about Markakis in right, nothing great but steady
mstrchef13
Because these are the two years that the Orioles didn’t want to sign him for. They would have been happy to sign him to a two- or three-year contract, but he wanted four and the Braves gave it to him. The team was concerned about his health (he had surgery on his neck, remember?) and his declining power (he hasn’t slugged above .400 since 2012). He has been healthy, but these last two years may be a different story, and they were right about his production.

They don’t NEED more power!!!! Christ….what is it with everyone and the desire for power hitters??? Anyone ever looked at the last few world series winners? They won with good pitching, good pens, high OBPs, CONTACT hitters that did not strike out a ton and go into team wide slumps all at once, and SPEED. Nicks numbers have NOT changed much at all…in fact, his OBP has been higher than MOST O’s starters the past 2 years…. .370, and .346…he had 38 doubles each of the last 2 years…181 and 161 hits, and drove in 90 this year! Oh, he hit 13 HR’s also. He also had 9 sac flies ALONE.. I mean, he had more hits, More doubles by 17, more rbi, more walks, fewer strikeouts, and a higher OBP than Adam Jones!!! All the same minus rbi than Trumbo, I could list several other O’s he had better numbers than also…and all of them are in the hits, walks, OBP, and K areas….THESE are the kinda hitters the O’s NEED more of….their philosophy of bashing hr’s isn’t going to win a WS….you have to have diversity in your offense….it’s a proven formula…ask the Giants, Royals, Cardinals…..
mstrchef13
You missed my point by focusing on one comment I made. The O’s would not want him back for the same reason they didn’t sign him to a long-term deal in the first place: health concerns. He’s entering the part of the contract the O’s didn’t want to give him, and he’s been an $11MM singles/doubles hitter for two years with declining defense. If Atlanta would eat half his salary and trade him to us for Dariel Alvarez, I’d be all for it. That’s just not going to happen.
Phillies2017
Why don’t they give Dariel Alvarez a shot- he’s a solid player, but has never been given a fair shot.
mstrchef13
Because Alvarez has no on base ability at all, even worse than Schoop. Plus, while he’s got a great throwing arm he is otherwise an average outfielder.
dwilson10
I like the idea of the O’s adding Jon Jay. He is a buy low guy with decent upside that could give them good defense in right, good OBP, a leadoff hitter and he is lefty. This seems like a Duquette type of addition and could probably help the team.
RoadRunner1938
When the fan base sees him every day they will turn on Jay, he has no speed which means he doesn’t get to a lot of balls hit his way.
mstrchef13
He would be playing RF, where his limited range you say he has wouldn’t be exposed so much. Jones covers a lot of ground in CF and Oriole Park doesn’t have much real estate in RF.
notagain27
Signing Greg Holland to a Brian Wilson type contract will get a GM the same treatment Ned Colletti got with the Dodgers.
beauvandertulip
Also Choo’s platoons aren’t a terrible issue. He can hit lefties, he did this year.

All Hail Jay… All Hail Jay…. Men In Black reference
Yes, Jon Jay would be great in Charm City!!!!
MatthewBaltimore23
Whatever it says about beating the market for Bautista has a -200% chance of happening.
1.Orioles won’t spend that much for an outfielder not named Adam Jones.
2. Nobody in Baltimore likes Jose Bautista.
mstrchef13
I don’t think that Buck would let him into the clubhouse. The rest of the team might ambush him and beat him to a paste.
Danthemilwfan
How could we not tender carter. His batting average isn’t great but his on base is solid, he led the NL in homers and even though he’s a big guy he plays a really good first base. Someone will trade for him if they don’t want to pay him

Markakis for Ubaldo or Gallardo
