Sounds like a good option for any rebuilding team, if it’s not a large financial investment they can hope he hits and then trade him for value at the deadline
BoldyMinnesota
Unless he turns back into end of Milwaukee/Houston Gomez

Can definitely see Oakland making an offer for him, but he might shy away from the big park. If the Rockies make trades he should cave on his multi-year request and go there on a 1 year deal to put up big numbers and try and grab a 3-4 year deal in 2017/18

Because teams don’t know that Coors Field inflates offensive numbers.

A five (or even 4) year deal for Gomez seems like a very big gamble. We are talking about someone who will start at age 31, and for whom the last two years (except for a short stint at the end of the year) were bad enough to get him released. I can see Boras asking insane dollars, but if I were a GM, he’d have to end up being very cheap for me to be interested. I am looking forward to Boras’ briefing books, that extrapolates the last third of August and all of September into a near-HOF player.

Ooooo he’s not getting a 5 year contract for sure unless it’s at 5 million a year and that’s a if?

Count this as the first “Should the Cubs sign him to a pillow contract?” mention of the off-season.

The part about the vision is interesting… Gomez wore glasses for two games against the Cardinals in STL this year and he looked the old Gomez when he was with Milwaukee. Then he went back to contacts and looked the .220 Gomez. Interesting why he didn’t just stick with glasses and see if that was really the answer.

I’m not a fan of this guy. One year plus option should be the most he receives, but he will get more.

There’s a reason temperamental guys like Hamilton and Gomez have their best numbers in Texas: the Rangers are a very player-supportive organization from the ownership down to the clubhouse. Gomez got positive encouragement in Arlington and finished strong there. Josh Hamilton put up monster numbers in Texas and didn’t completely fall apart til he went to an opposite organization like the Angels.
BoldyMinnesota
I highly doubt that the reason Hamilton and Gomez struggled in Houston and Anaheim is because they didn’t get support. That’s a narrative that just works since they were good in Texas and imo was just a coincidence

Actually Jeff Todd, Carlos Gomez is able to receive a qualifying offer because he has spent the full season in 2016 with the Astros. He was traded by the Brewers to the Astros in July 2015. At any rate, the Astros would be crazy to extend him a qualifying offer after his poor performance on the field the past 2 years.

I take that back he was released by the Astros then signed with the Rangers. That does make him ineligible for a QO. What a weird year for him.
Whyamihere
He got released by the Astros mid season and last played for the Rangers.

Could be a good gamble for a team willing to offer him 3-4 years. As an Orioles fan, I hope they try to get him. He is still a very good player, when healthy, and could be a top of the order bat for them.
The Morning After Pillar
With Adam Jones already starting in CF I could see Gomez and Boras looking to another team where everyday CF at bats are available. If they can’t find that situation then a corner OF in Baltimore would certainly be a nice fit

Take a look back thru the history of all major FA signs of Duquette and hard to find a awful sign. Gomez would be the 1st.
Some could, probably would say Davis, then that was ownership pushing as much for that one and Duquette did his job in getting it done.
Duquette is as good as it gets in picking thru the bottom of the heap for buys and knowing which ones are worth trending up, which ones will flounder. Gomez is a drowner.. Boras can’t pump enough air into that carcass to save it.
Ace of Spades
Ubaldo? Gallardo?
Charlie Burns
Ubaldo Jimenez and Gallardo would beg to differ.
FOmeOLS
After a long off-season of nothing, Gonez will sign a one-year contract with the Orioles, who will be happy to have him at his reduced “humble pie” salary.

He needs and Adrian beltre in Boston type of deal.
I’m seeking multi year deal in the MLB this offseason as well. And I think I’m as likely as Gomez to get it
