Thanks, fixed.

Every time I see Tylor Chatwood’s name, I am reminded of one of many bad trades Dipoto made as GM of the Angels
arcadia Ldogg
Many!
GeoKaplan
Ok, I’ll play.
Chatwood was traded straight up for Iannetta.
Iannetta wasn’t the second coming of Pudge Rodriguez, but he did start about 400 games over 4 seasons and plugged a hole in the developmental system (as I recall, the alternate was Bobby Wilson).
Chatwood, on the other hand, had a very nice 2013, then missed all of 2014 and 2015 with TJ. 2016 was his comeback year, and his splits suggest he was better out of Coors but also faded during the season.
Nobody could foresee Chatwood breaking down in 2012, but how did this become a “bad trade” by Dipoto?

Don’t mean this in any bad way but just curious, why hasn’t there been an article on the Rangers prospects who are being charged. Seems like a pretty big baseball story.

German Marquez should be considered a possibility to spend some time in the rotation in 2017. On the other hand, Lyles and Butler not so much, although they could find themselves in the pen if even tendered.
Jeff Todd
He’s definitely worth mentioning; I’ll add him in.

The Rockies would be best served to take a page from the Royals, Indians and the playoffs at large this year by bolstering their bullpen. They should acquire as many swing and miss relievers as they can to mitigate the launching pad they play in. Moving a piece like CarGo to the Orioles for example and acquiring O’Day or Britton (with prospects if needed) and adding additional firepower in the pen would make this team a real threat in the NL West. They have a good mix of established studs and young talent but need to reinvent their pitching staff… if they do, they can become a scary team, and this is coming from a die-hard Dodger fan,
Pops
Baltimore doesn’t want Cargo. And they certainly are not trading O’Day or Britton. Maybe they’d trade Ubaldo…I hope they trade Ubaldo.

When is the deadline for players to be non-tendered?
daved
Non tender deadline is December 2nd.

Rockies and Jay’s should line up for a deal. Jay’s get Blackmon and McGee which fills 2 big holes for the Jay’s. As noted above the Rockies have options behind these players.
Rockies get 2b Devon Travis, switch hitter 1b Justin Smoak + 4mil and prospects Connor Green and one more prospect
vtadave
Jays would love that I’m sure, but the Rockies already have a pretty good second baseman in DJ LeMahieu and Smoak is garbage. Even Green is nothing special.

Thanks for this article, I truly love this website, but what you wrote about CarGo is simply incorrect. You say his glove hasn’t gotten good reviews? Dude was Gold Glove finalist for 2016 in RF! Also the commenter who says Rox should trade for Devon Travis?! Ha! DJ won the NL batting championship! The entire problem is the bullpen. Signed lousy free agents last offseason. Don’t spend big money on 1B, we need bullpen pieces! Melancon would be a perfect fit because he’s a groundball pitcher. Spend the money, make the playoffs.

Defensive metrics have not been a big fan, but I probably overstated it some.

Gonzalez has been a below average defender for three years now. As for the Gold Glove nomination, Rafael Palmeiro won a GG as a DH, so…

This team is a joke,. They have no clue when it comes to pitchers,. That can get the bat correct once in a while. Like cargo, and the 3ed baseman. I have been with the team 1993 opening week end I was there. I remember e.y hr first a.b. in the stadium. But the owner and organizers need to get there head out of there ass. And do right by the team and fans. They will never win a w.s. with the way they run it. Bad Trade Deals, like parra,. And not talking advantage of del a rose, when teams wanted him. There is a tons of issues , and the owner doesn’t care. The fans keep getting more.pised off at the owners and ect. As they will not build a Willing team. I can do a better job then them

What the Rockies really need is impossible. They need to unload three of their offseason contracts from last year(Parra, Motte, Qualls). Even if for nothing. Creating that space, as well as the possibility of non-tendering Lyles and/or McGee would allow them the financial flexibility to chase the only talent of this class which is truly coors field proof: Aroldis Chapman. I tend to think he will be the first 100m reliever with an AAV of 20m. But giving the axe to those four or five players, as well the increase in spending coin from Dick would leave Bridich the opportunity to offer the most unique player on earth an over priced contract he could not refuse. But it’s moot. Refer to sentence 1. No one is taking those contracts. Not even Jerry Dipoto.

The Rockies will never be a threat because they are in perpetual rebuild. No decent starting pitchers want to go there and they can’t develop pitchers to save their lives. So long as that’s the case, they will always be a doormat in the NL West.
