How on earth is Addison Reed due to make $10.6 million next year? I know he’s been great for the Mets since being acquired, but that’s a ton of money for a reliever that’s not a closer.
MrMet19
He spent his early career closing for the White Sox, and because closers make more and arbitration cannot drop and generally rises year-to-year, he’s overpaid… oh well
rrieders
Because it’s wrong. Reed will make around 7.5 – 8.0 million next year.

…a lot of problems. A lot.

do we finnally get to see all 5 starters together in 2017?

Doubt it. Wheeler will end as a reliever and at least one of the other 4 will get hurt.

I think that they have to plan for Cespedes to go, and spread the money around to address several needs on the list. That means signing one of the big CF options (Fowler is my preference), giving Walker the QO, and diving into the reliever market – Familia’s situation aside, the bullpen as a whole is full of question marks. I don’t think they necessarily need to open the wallet for a big closer (those contracts have a way of going up in flames) but bringing Blevins back and signing 1-2 other arms could give the bullpen the kind of depth that it lacked last season. I would definitely be in favor of bringing in a Pearce type as a platoon partner for Duda/bench bat as well.

degroms- you have the right idea in my mind sign Fowler, Pearce, they offered Walker the QA already and add a few good relief pitchers. The people I hear on the FAN think Cespedes it a must.. The Mets future will all depend on their young arms which we saw last year. The health of Harvey and deGrom will be the key to their season next year along with keeping Thor healthy. And then theirs Matz and Wheeler. Oh yah, sign big Bart for insurance.

Sandy Alderson needs to get at least three of these things done this offseason, especially the first one:
•Re-sign Cespedes or acquire another big bat
•Sign a setup man for Reed (assuming Familia is suspended)
•Re-sign Blevins or sign Boone Logan
•Non-tender Rivera, sign a cheaper veteran backup
•Re-sign Kelly Johnson or another utility man (Steve Pearce?)

Any chance for now that Lugo and Gsellman end up in the pen? I know both starters, but with having 7 potential starters is there any chance that for the short term a couple head to the pen? COuld be either of those 2 or Wheeler, cover your weakness with where you are stronger
