any insight why the bluejays MLB transaction page lists both Barney and Thole as electing FA, even though they don’t have 6 years, and are not listed as non-tendered?
jaysfan77
Barney is Arb 3
lawries_helmet
i know…..so why would he have been allowed to elect FA?
jaysfan77
I’m not sure, I know he was listed as arb 3 earlier in the season. Hoping he’s arb 3! Great to have Darwin as a back up infielder.

What would it take to get pillar? Adams, bader, wacha, weaver? Or Garcia in place of wacha/weaver?
BoldyMinnesota
That’s too much I’d say, but pillars a hard guy to value. He might be the best defender in the game, but his bat kind of sucks. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t trade him though because he helps the pitching staff out so much
jaysfan77
He’s been hurt the last two years, punched a locker the year before, and torn thumb ligaments this year, I think he has more power than he’s shown he just needs to work on not swinging at everything! Needs to be more selective.

Lol

Offer Jansen or melancon a role that Miller had in Cleveland. If they say they want to close, offer them a 50k bonus for each scoreless inning (or appearance). Some outside the box thinking like that and I wouldn’t mind a trade for markakis
Doc Halladay
Markakis is certainly intriguing. Not sure what Atlanta would want or if I’d pay a premium for him but he fits the lineup well.
jaysfan77
I agree, although Atlanta is stating they aren’t interested in trading him, but that’s most likely because they haven’t been offered much for him.

Markakis would be perfect for this lineup. I would try for Inciarte first, but Markakis would be a close second. Don’t think it would take too much to get Markakis either
BoldyMinnesota
Oh man an outfield of pillar, inciarte and Pompey(?) would not let a ball touch the outfield grass all year. But like you said markakis likely wouldn’t take much to get if Toronto took on his whole salary so I think he’s a bit more appealing even though he’s not as good
jaysfan77
Only thing about Markakis, he doesn’t have any speed I think the jays would like to add a bit of that
Doc Halladay
Outside of the obvious holes at DH, 1B and RF, the Jays need to add some AAA rotation depth. I’d look at guys like Kyle Kendrick, Dillon Gee and even Kris Medlen in the hopes they’d accept a AAA roster spot. I’d also like to see Scott Feldman back as a long man/6th starter as well. The Jays got extremely lucky in 2016 and only used 7 starters. The odds of that happening again are very slim.
jaysfan77
That’s the easy part of the off season though, once things shake out.
lawries_helmet
well they didn’t do that great a job last year, and Buffalo and NH had pretty bad results (though hitting was even a bigger problem)
