I think the mariners would be a good spot for wieters. Give him 3/39 as you guys predicted or even 4/46
skrockij89
They have Zunino and Ruiz already. They don’t need Wieters at all
Lefty_Orioles_Fan
Wieters will seek a four-year deal, but will ultimately settle for a three-year, $39MM pact
And why the Orioles can’t afford this is beyond me!
I want him back!!!
mstrchef13
I don’t want him back. I thought he was lazy defensively and his swing is slower than ever. We have more important people to give money to than him.
dwilson10
I really hope the O’s don’t bring Wieters back. It would be a huge waste of money when they have Joseph who can do just as good, if not better. They also have Sisco waiting in AAA and it sounds like he is only a half year to year away. They could find a better way to use the money they would pay Wieters.
Lefty_Orioles_Fan
Joseph is no where near the Catcher Wieters is.
dwilson10
Joseph has never been given a “full” year as the #1 catcher like Wieters has, and fielding wise, he is just as good, if not better. He is a better pitch framer and throws out runners at 31%, Wieters is at 35%. In 2015, Joseph’s only “full” season catching, his Average and OBP are just a tinny but worse than Wieters (when he’s healthy). He also had 11 homers with 49 RBI in 2015. So why not save the $10 million per year they would have to pay Wieters and put it towards locking up Tillman, getting a free agent, or having some cap room incase they make a trade and have to add some salary?
Lefty_Orioles_Fan
I don’t need to see Joseph catch the full season to know that Joseph simply cannot catch and tag like Wieters can. Joseph has a case of the dropsies.
Nothing can cure that.
dwilson10
Check Baseball-Reference.com and it will show Joseph is the better defensive catcher. He has a better career fielding percentage (and just so you know it says Wieters had 11 errors last year, ELEVEN). Joseph also has 22 DRS in 3 years, while Wieters only has 7 DRS in 8 years and has been negative the last 4 years. In 2015, Joseph’s only “full” season, his WAR was 2.2. Wieters hasn’t had a WAR that high since 2012. Should I go on? All the numbers point towards Joseph being the better defensive catcher.
beauvandertulip
If you want to stick with Joseph go ahead. Do the orioles thing and settle. Because he’s not a viable everyday catcher. The orioles might as well sign arencibia if they want a bad catcher.

I agree. Weiters was never as good as people thought he would be, and he is declining, but if I were the O’s and could bring him back on a one or two year deal that wasn’t very expensive, I’d take it. Allow Sisco to develop and not have to use a very sub par catcher like Joseph full time. As a braves fan, I wouldn’t mind picking him up, but not for 3 years like he seems to want
bawlmerhon
Zero rbi prorated out to a full year is still zero
bawlmerhon
Wieters is light years ahead of Joseph
baseballjunkie68
Rays are a fit but I don’t see them spending 40 million on him.
JayJayXV
What about Wieters to the Mets?
misterb71
Wieters is nowhere near the catcher you remeber him as.
thekid9
Pecota and Wieters forever linked in my mind. They predicted his rookie year he “could hit 311/.395/.544 in the majors this year, we took notice-this was the first time that PECOTA had looked at a prospect and predicted an MVP-caliber, Hall of Fame-level season right off the bat.”
They are dead to me.
GoRav114
I don’t know if it is worth giving him 50 plus million but I do believe Winters still has not had his career year. A team that signs him for less than 15 AAV is going to get the steal of the off-season as at least 2 of the next 4 are going to be his best
GoRav114
**Wieters not Winters! Dang phone
