Didn’t realize any of the moves they have made were considered “significant”
mike156
Reminds me of the earlier post about Cashman being angry about the Marlins driving up Chapman’s price. .You knew Loria was doing it for window-dressing, but if he’s making offers for Jansen and Chapman, regardless of his sincerity, it’s going to impact the market.
RunDMC
NYY bickering about spending money — what a waste of time. They obtained Chapman originally from CIN for a reduced price from the domestic incident he was cleared of, then ultimately sold him for a high price to CHC getting one of the top-ranked prospects in the game (Torres)…and now they’re bickering over a reported $15M more they’re saying they had to pay because of MIA…?
First market problems. Get over yourselves, Cash Man.

**Sorry for the soap box rant.
mike156
Don’t sweat the rant. My real point was that Marlins are first and foremost about maximizing their returns–and a lot of that comes from other people’s pockets (the tax payer and the bigger market teams). When Loria bids, he’s almost certainly doing it for show, and I think that drives other GM’s crazy. Cashman just said something about it, but I’ll bet he’s not alone with the feeling.

Those are significant moves?
jayceincase
Their most significant moves were driving the price up for closers!

In other news, the Marlins also announced opening day is in the spring

Marlins fans announce they could be done watching significant teams.
everlastingdave
Sure. I mean, it’s not like you needed multiple average-to-good SPs and instead signed Volquez and Locke. I’m probably pretty sure it’ll all work out for the best.
chieftoto
When did they start?
formerlyz
So we’re just not going to add another SP. Not even Nova on an AAV of $8 million. That was expected, really. Just more Loria going half way and then complaiming that he tried when it doesn’t work…what a joke of an organization. July/August can’t come quickly enough. Give us more Loria getting out info

Get ready for a 5th place finish after a Stanton trade at mid season! #That’s significant
The Oregonian
Why would someone take on Stanton’s contract? He’s not thought of as highly as when he inked that onerous deal, and it’s backloaded to boot. Really can’t picture him opting out.

What about Vlad Jr. in the package???
Wild05fan 2
They did nothing after all that talk we were hearing. probably not the time anyway, that SP isn’t going to win them anything next year in that division.

If the Marlins want there’s about a hundred RH guys who can play first with Bour out there on the cheap.

The message from the front office is clear: We’re now shifting into the familiar mode of attempting to convince ourselves that we’re where we wanna be, and all unaddressed needs will be done so internally because that’s worked so well in the past.
