How does the fact that Martinez spent the first year plus of his career in the bullpen affect his case?
Jeff Todd
Less innings and wins.

But did he draw rave reviews in those relief innings?

Very impressed by Martinez’s growth in 2016; surely he’ll be the Opening Day starter (I hope)

I think out of respect Waino will get it once again but Carlos is number 1 in my head and on paper but opening day usually goes to the Veteran. But I see your point.

Mets should just lock deGrom for 4 years and consider the same with Syndergaard after this season.

Mets need to evaluate deGrom “post-surgical procedure” prior to deciding anything about contract length, especially after the season that he just endured. Making an error on short term money is of less consequence than with length of contract.
Had NY locked up Harvey on a 5 year deal after his 2013 season, they would have suffered through most of 2 seasons (out of the 1st 3) without his services…..and we still don’t know how effective he will be after TOS. Some pitchers never make it back, others do, but are less effective. Only time will tell.

They will suffer on the other end of either one has a good recovery because the cheap Wilpons will be passed over for greener pastures.
And didn’t the Mets’ manager’s overuse have something to do with the injuries?

Hopefully he fares better than Shelby did after getting his first arbitration pay day

Miller’s “stuff” was never as electric as C-Mart’s…….not even close.
mcdusty31
I didn’t think Miller would’ve fallen off so badly but I have to agree that Martinez has much better stuff

It would be hard to give Degrom any sort of extension following last year. That loaded Mets pitching staff has already started to crumble with injuries, performance, and uncertain contract situations. It will be interesting to see where they are at in two years
