Any speculation on who the C not on the roster is?
hooligan
Norris.

He’s literally worse than who they already have.

If Jesus Sucre can keep up the hot start he’s had this spring I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Casali are the catchers on Opening Day. He’s already been compared to Jose Molina and that’s a pretty big deal in Rays camp.
Nothing about the competition for the last bullpen spot? Tommy Hunter, Kevin Gadea. Chase Whitley, Ryne Stanek, and to a lesser extent Cory Rasmus, David Carpenter, Justin Marks, and Dana Eveland all duking it out for the last spot in the ‘pen is the camp battle I’m watching closest this spring

Also, Daniel Robertson should probably be added as a candidate for the 1B/2B spot. Know the Rays usually don’t have rookies on the Opening Day roster for financial reasons, but they seem to be giving Robertson every opportunity to win a job this spring

I think they are still planning on sending him to AAA, but they are going to see if he is viable insurance. Tim Beckham is pretty much a lock.
greiunfioewfm
Robertson is definitely starting in AAA, as is Gillaspie, but how he does this spring probably dictates when he’s called up. Beckham is a lock until Robertson is ready, and then Robertson will fill Beckham’s role as backup 2B/3B/SS. If Beckham has more of his, um, mental mistakes, Robertson just may happen to be ready a bit sooner though

Sucre I think is going to surprise a lot of folks. He’s great behind the dish and he’s really come around with the bat in the last couple of years. He stays within his game which is a lot of hitting the other way. As an Mariners fan, my guess is Sucre nails down the job.

How did Rickie Weeks come up in the 1B/2B discussion? Don’t see him mentioned as a possibility until the prediction.

He’s gonna platoon at 1b with lomo

I’m curious if they are going to get a new stadium or will they move to Montreal ?
Come down between them and the As and it doesn’t make sense to move the As to the east
ducksnort69
I personally think the Montreal thing for the Rays is smoke and mirrors. The I4 corridor is very valuable TV market and the Rays have good ratings; especially in winning seasons. Orlando makes more sense than Canada, but a deal will get done in current Bay Area IMHO.
SamFuldsFive
Montreal already had a team and didn’t care. Why would anyone give them another chance?
thebare
Cause there hungry for it

Much like Tampa, Montreals stadium is in a less than ideal area. The city has tremendous push and momenteum. Once manfred gives them the green light, the Expos will return. They already have a good spot picked out Downtown on the canal. As a die hard rays fan from Montreal, we will not get blessed with the rays that is a pipe dream. a MLB team in Montreal in the next 8-10 years is not. 55k every jays game at the big O

Tampa is the 11th largest TV market. There is no way MLB is moving a team out of that market.

Working in a new C mid spring training? Great idea…

Chase Whitley is a hidden gem who may end up starting if a pitcher heads to the dl
