I would rather keep Machado. Then you have two backups that can play INF and Romine can play OF as well. Also I think Machado is more likely to be a solid Major League starter
kehoet83
Totally agree there.

When have the Tigers EVER not carried two backup middle infielders on the roster? It’s been an obsession for many years. Moya looks like the odd man out, barring an injury or a trade. Theoretically, the Tigers could option Mahtook, but then they’d have Collins and maybe Upton playing CF, and that won’t cut it. Moya is the one that doesn’t fit in any role unless there is an injury to a corner OF or DH.

Under that scenario, Romine would be the backup CF, not Upton.

Counting on Charlie Morton will bring you nothing but heartache and disappointment. Don’t believe it? Then don’t be surprised in a few months.
SuperSinker
He’s a pretty good pitcher profile to take a chance on. Most pitchers will disappoint you, but Morton has shown some really intriguing skills and velocity.

Morton at 2/14 reminds me of Pelfrey at 2/16 and that’s not a good thing.

Injuries are practically a certainty with Morton. He’s right on par with Brett Anderson in that department. If Ray Searage got the best out of Charlie Morton in PIT, Astros should temper their expectations.
astros_fan_84
I think the idea with Morton is 100-150 innings and a bunch of quality starts. He ought to be a dependable #5 option, and when he gets hurts, the Astros have AAA depth.
2/14 is pretty cheap for a free agent starter. If he gives the Astros 2 WAR production, it will be a good signing.

Moya is not, repeat not, a baseball player. He’s even money to miss, not even touch, a fly ball hit in his direction. There’s nowhere to hide him. It’s obvious, everybody knows it. So keep Machado. If you put Moya on waivers no one will take him….word gets around.
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
Usually those guys are hidden at DH.
RiseAgainst3598
Moya Won’t be claimed. And while his Defense was atrocious in Detroit this year it’s generally regarded as only slightly below average.

Worth mentioning that Lawrie has not played since July and no word on when he might play again. He played well when he was able.
stymeedone
“Played well” is an interesting opinion. When “able” is much more telling.
Priggs89
Played mediocre would be more fitting imo.
JKB 2
How can you say he played well? He stunk in the field and hit .240
