I would go 4/35 because he can’t stay healthy
_kherz23
More like 4/55
Ironman_4life
Id go 3 years 35 max
hooligan
both of those are low imo. market has spiked for everyday players and tanked for non-regulars. Cain has a solid case for a 5/60 extension or a 5/70-90 (depending on how the market shakes out) deal as an FA.

“He can’t stay healthy.”
— So you’re saying, um, that Cain isn’t Able…?
Oh, brother.
GareBear
I can’t decide whether that was clever or if I feel dumber for reading it
bartoloshomie
Its clearly a joke, sorry if you feel dumber for reading it

“Notably, Cespedes and Desmond landed five-year deals worth between $70MM and $82.5MM as free agents…”
Are you sure you intended to put Cespedes in here? He signed for much more than $82.5M and wasn’t referenced earlier in this piece.
Connor Byrne
Fixed. Thanks. Cespedes was part of the piece initially, but I took him out and the second mention of his name slipped by me in editing.
Brixton
I think hes in that Alex Gordon kind of range.
Lego4365
Should you change Cespedes to Fowler?
Connor Byrne
Yep, thanks.

Trade Cain. In fact, when you look at the Royals, they have realized success because of a combination of good players clicking simultaneously. Signing some and not others will simply result in an okay team performance and they do not have the budget to sign everybody. As a result of the WS, individual players are overrated. None are at the top of their position class. Trade, trade, trade and build something real.

I’m in agreement . The Royals had success building an overall winning TEAM. I would hope they wouldn’t lose confidence in themselves and change their M.O. now.
astros_fan_84
If Cain wants a longterm deal with the Royals, he should say that he’ll do for eight cents on the dollar.
When a player says that they want their team to give them full market value as an extension, I think its unseemly.

Define “:long-term”, Lorenzo. I’m looking at 3 or 4 years. I hope Lorenzo isn’t looking at, like, six because it isn’t going to happen anywhere.
