obviously, a risk to guarantee a contract — especially with a young player after only one year. but they think Nomar is a stud so it could save them big $$ later on. and of course, Mazara might lose some money but if he flames out and/or is injured, he should have enough to live on the rest of his life

The White Sox did them no favors with the abnormally large extension they just gave Tim Anderson. I’m curious to see how large a 1 year service time extension now gets.
On a side note, too bad for the Rangers he started off so hot and forced their hand to keep him up for the full year. It would be nicer for them if he was still a few days short of that first full season of service time.
