REALLY hope that the White Sox chose to be cheap on the international market this offseason because they were planning on waiting for this guy and not just to save money.
lowtalker1
Prellar gots this
beersy
Lets hope so. Robert would be one heck of a way to end this international signing spree he and the Padres ownership have been on.
SuperSinker
I hope the White Sox get it done. I think they have the inside track anyway.
james_schicker
Let’s hope not. Prellar is an unethical embarrassment to the game.
beersy
I don’t think “exceeding their spending limits for 2016-17” will have any effect on any of the teams mentioned in regards to Robert. All of those teams know they are “out” for Otani next year, so this is their last chance to spend big on a great young international talent for years.
lowtalker1
Otani? Dude won’t be posted
Hard caps now not worth it for them
beersy
Read an earlier article from today, Otani wants to come over next year and apparently he has “a deal” with his team that they have to allow it.
biasisrelitive
but otoni I don’t think will pass up the $$$ he might say otherwise but….
yankees25
Oh boy more injuries and bad performances can’t wait for the rest of the Yankee season.
metseventually 2
Cry me a river.
yankees25
lol it happens when they have unrealistic expectations but I dont care

Been saying Quintana to the Rockies. Makes too much sense. Maybe even add in Abreu for Dahl to get Desmond back to the OF. Rockies need to make some noise this year after spending up and need @ least 1 SP to do so.
AstrosWS20
The Rockies will never be a legit good team. The sooner Rockies fans realize this the easier it will be for everyone.
aspiers
Why not? You really have no point as this team has not very many weak links
lowtalker1
Hahah
You’re dumb
Rockies have good teams. It’s all about attracting pitching
Like saying the Astro are trash. They were for 5-10 years until recently
lowtalker1
And they need to go back to the nl
And they need to send the brewers back to the al

I don’t think Jose Abreu will be going anywhere in the short term. The Cuban slugger will not only play the role of Yoan Moncada’s “big brother” when the the White Sox #1 prospect is promoted later this season but will also be a prominent salesman to help lure Luis Robert to the South Side of Chicago.
sss847
I don’t think they go for Q. curves generally don’t work at altitude.
why give up rodgers, Tapia, and 2 lotto tickets for a pitcher that won’t be properly used?
hyraxwithaflamethrower
Provided a deal starts with Rodgers, I wouldn’t mind that. I don’t think they get Abreu, though. Hitting is not the Rockies’ problem; I don’t think they should give up assets to address it. Quintana’s stuff may not curve as much up there, but neither will his opponent’s stuff, so I think he’ll still be significantly above average most times out.
JJ Wattcha Going to do Brother
Buck as a manager is one of the best. As a GM I really think he could build a great team.
pplama
Rodgers, Tapia, Castellani

I think the Mariners have overplayed their hand in their ‘win now’ approach. Maybe misplayed is more appropriate. When you have a three 4th outfielders relied on to be starters, that is concerning for a win now approach. Yes, the Indians did win the AL pennant with the likes of Rajai, Naquin, Chisenhall and Guyer- but they were forced to endure on without Brantley and most importantly, they had the pitching to make it work. Outside of Paxton and Diaz, how excited can you get about the the M’s staff?
Connorsoxfan
Felix?? And Smyly is good enough.
jayceincase
Always been a Felix fan, but since I made reference to the Indians staff. He would only be a #4 starter. Additionally, his peripherals have declined for four straight seasons. Smyly has always been full of promise and injury.

Hope White Sox do sign Luis Robert’s and does become the next Cespedes

As I’ve said all along no matter what Hahn says, the CWS are in a “reluctant” rebuild phase. If they are more than 3 gb as they enter the break we can safely assume they won’t trade any young talent for vets. The real test for Hahn is if they surprise & are closer.
I have no problem with the high asks on their vets or spending to acquire good/great prospects. But Hahn must hold Kenny down. Any surprise is short term. The vets they have are not likely to be here 3 yrs out. There should be a moratorium on trading prospects for vets until this team has reached the ALDS two years in a row.
hyraxwithaflamethrower
They won’t be closer. Not nearly enough offense and I still expect Shields to crash back to earth. Decent starting pitching (at least until Q gets traded), but after that, this team doesn’t really have a strength.
chisoxjuan
There is no excuse for the CWS not going over their Intl pool allotment in the old CBA when the only penatly was money. Many teams took advantage of that including the Cubs. That’s how the Red Sox got Moncada. They can’t do that now with the allotments being capped. The better the record the worst a team’s pool. No exceptions.
In hindsight though, the first year under the new CBA grandfather’s what a team didn’t spend under the old. That’s partly why the CWS are the front runners to land Luis.
Robertson has looked fan-tastic early on & Hahn was smart to keep his ask high. He’s the odds on favorite right now to be the most sought after closer before the deadlines. That’s what this season is most about: vets overachieving so Hahn can deal them for quality prospects.
