Time to move JD up a few spots I think. More has to do with the two ahead of him sucking
Tim Dierkes
It’s tough…it’s a great bat, but he may be all bat. I can see that getting him past Lucroy, and Arrieta if he drops out of five-year deal territory.

What about Jason Vargas?
Jeff Todd
He’s discussed if you read below the top 10. Doesn’t seem at all likely he’ll end up being one of the ten highest-paid free agents, though.

I think Tillman and Lynn make more than Wade Davis.
Tim Dierkes
It depends on if you think they’ll get four-year deals at solid AAVs. I’m not quite there yet. A healthy Davis could get 4/68 or better and I don’t see Lynn or Tillman in that territory.
callmemabry
Interesting. So you see Davis falling between Melancon and Jansen/Chapman. Will be same age Melancon was, so it makes a good comp. Davis has been undeniably dominant since converting to bullpen, but less of a track record in the closing role. Platform year is shaping up nicely. Maybe you’re right. But I’m still guessing Lynn at 4/60, Davis at 3/54. A year younger, starter…obviously has to remain healthy and put TJ in rearview. But maybe I just need to adjust to relievers getting serious cash.

At the time of this article, the Rockies had the best record in the NL. Go Rox!!

I think there was a several-hour gap between my finishing of the article and it getting published…I was looking at records through yesterday.

“Tanaka has always been on shakier ground than the Big Three of this free agent class”
There has been no mention of a Big Three pitchers in any of the dozens of articles I have read on the next free agency class. Just because Tanaka has been pitching poorly and may warrant being dropped on the list doesn’t suddenly turn a universally acknowledged Big Four into a Big Three.
You have to like introduce the concept of the Big Four shrinking, can’t just pretend it didn’t exist and it has been a Big Three all along.
Tim Dierkes
You’ve read 24+ articles on the next free agency class? Where?
In my first entry in this series in March, I wrote “Though he’s every bit as talented as the pitchers listed above, and a couple years younger, I’ve got Tanaka in a slightly lower tier.” I explained it at that time and have stuck with that in the rankings. I don’t know about anything being universally acknowledged because I haven’t looked at other FA rankings, but I have separated Arrieta, Darvish, and Cueto from the start this year.

What is your feel the Cubs are trying to offer arrieta before free agency? What is your feel if season ended today Jake would receive? With his age and current struggles His “aces get 7 years” seems to be fading.

Is Moustakas a FA after this season
Yosted1738
Yes.

No Lorenzo Cain? He’s the only decent CF in this free agent class. Every team that needs CF help will be in on him.

Boy, this is shaping up to be a very interesting next two offseasons. Going to really shape the leagues big time in 2019.

I think the Phillies are going for J.d. In right and moustakas at 3rd and Franco is at first then they don’t start Joseph.

Why would Cueto opt out? Is his contract not pretty rich? What team would give himmore, especially if he’s struggling this season.
Sean1114
I want to see Yankees going for Darvish and
shohei ohtani if Tanaka opt out they have Japanese Connection so it will be good for him. If they add Hosmer and Holliday, they will be WS champ if no big injury.
