It is time for MLB to go through an expansion phase again to raise the number of teams to 32. New teams in Charlotte and Oklahoma City plus the transfer of weak franchises to Montreal and Vancouver would serve the game well. IMHO, this would allow MLB to consolidate into four 8-team divisions with the top 3 teams eligible for the playoffs each year. The DH rule would apply across MLB.

Mostly good ideas except Oklahoma City couldn’t support a baseball team.

I don’t see any reason Oklahoma couldn’t support a baseball team.

Montreal couldn’t in the past, not sure why they could now.

Isn’t there a lot of interest from Las Vegas in getting a team? Would think that would be a safer bet than OK City, in my opinion. Would love to see Greg Maddux, Vegas-native, involved in the club.

As a tourist (Australian) I would have loved to see an MLB team in Vegas. Its a logical place for Aussies to travel to. Alcohol and gambling. A walk to the stadium would be a given.

I was with you up until the all DH thing.

Thank you to everyone involved in this excellent piece of journalism. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
I was genuinely excited for the expansion- at 8 years old, I was in my card collecting prime. Now, I have even more respect for these organizations and the men who were excited at the challenge of putting together a team from scratch.
Keep it coming guys. I visit this site constantly for rumors and d.l. news but the features over the last year have continued to up my level of fascination for baseball.

Chuck really did an amazing job with this series, I agree!
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the feature work — that has definitely been an area of focus for us.

Why does everyone want to put a team back in Montreal? They had stadium issues the entire time the Expos were there. They had trouble building a radio network. Yes they sell ou two exhibition games every year but that does not make a case for it.

The popularity of Montreal as a baseball city is partly due to the allure of the area’s renowned Poutine. Players, fans, sportswriters, and savvy MLB execs just can’t resist it.

i loved the Rockies team. This is how you pack Coors Field. Imagine they had a decent starting rotation. Put Larry Walker’s 1997 stats in there and they were the greatest offensive team in History.

Loved reading this 3 part series. It led me to ask one question I had after reading, which future impact players were left unprotected that weren’t selected by Colorado and the Marlins? Surely there were missed opportunities for both franchises that were later regretted.
