Seems like they could get some real bullpen pitchers once in awhile
padresfan
What is a bullpen pitcher?
It’s a failed starter that can be effective for an inning or two
privy
Not today bullpens are elite comodity and a must have.
padresfan
They still are failed starters at one point or another in their careers
davbee
Uh, no they aren’t. Many relievers come up as relivers and are even relievers as far back as college. They usually are one or two pitch pitchers.
TheMichigan
I would think most relievers could be failed position players. Motte, Jansen, Doolittle, Wakefield, Gose now.
padresfan
Ahh no
Control stamina etc
padresfan
Some are
Trevor Hoffman was a failed short stop
davbee
Ah no. Lots of relievers have great control. Lots of relievers also have great stamina., they just choose to go all out because they know they’re only asked to go 1-2 innings. John Smoltz was a great reliever–are you saying he was moved to the pen because he failed as a starter.
jdgoat
That’s one example though. For the most part, relievers are failed starters.
padresfan
Yes they are jdgoat

John smoltz was moved to the pen after he had arm issues
davidcoonce74
Smoltz was moved to the bullpen because he got hurt.

Fien is a classic mariner shuttle player, up-sucks…down-does enough to make it back to the bigs just to suck again yet we keep running him out there praying for a miracle that won’t happen. It’s been 16 years, multiple managers, multiple GM’s and we still can’t figure out how to cut bait with horrible players
