Mets Closing In On Deal With Jon Rauch

By Luke Adams 2 | December 6, 2011 at 3:40pm CDT

The Mets are closing in on a deal with free agent reliever Jon Rauch, according to Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger (via Twitter). Adam Rubin of ESPN New York tweeted earlier that the two sides were making progress and had "good talks."

If the Mets reach an agreement with Rauch, the Blue Jays, who offered arbitration to the Type B free agent, would receive a compensation draft pick.

    Ouch, good luck Mets fans.

The only good thing he did last year was when he went nuts on the umpire.

There was that play when that grounder skipped up off his shoe and took his cap clean off his head. I’d say that was pretty good.

Was at that game I LOVED that lol and then 40,000+ (Halladay return) fans yelling you suck to the ump or a good 5+ mins amazing.

Jon Rauch to help ease the pain of losing Jose Reyes… hahaha!

Seriously, though this would be a good move for Rauch. I think he could make it as a Pro Wrestler after his pitching career is over. Stamford CT is not all that far from Citi Field. On his day off, Big Jon could drive up to WWE HQ and have a sit down with Vince McMahon and I am willing to bet that Vince would listen. I really do think Jon could do it!

        I was being serious.

John Rauch can carry a team on his back. Rauch alone has a WAR of 45.

Hopefully he has a good year, I was at a game in Toronto where an Ump blew a call calling a Phillie safe at home, and Rauch EXPLODED on him, it was amazing and even though he didnt do well I liked him for not taking crap from that Ump.

I remember that. Hilarious watching Farrell try to hold him back. If I had been that ump I would have been running far, far away—Rauch is a big, scary-looking dude.

Sadly, he is on the decline and injury prone, pitchers like this go to NY and get chewed up, spit out and disappear into irrelevancy.

I think this is a bad idea, unless Sandy Alderson sees something in his 6.2 strikeouts per nine in 2011.
