The 2025 MLB trade deadline has passed, and it was a good one with plenty of surprises. This post lists all July trades for each of the 30 teams, plus a bonus trio of June acquisitions. Check out the “acquired” links below to read our write-ups on the trades. Let me know in the comments if any of the Baseball-Reference player page links are wrong; that’s an automated process and I’ll fix them manually.

Rumored Players Who Were Not Traded
O’s also got Boston Bateman and Brandon Butterworth from SD.
Couple of A-grade names
Boston Bateman and Brandon Butterworth?
Definitely B-grade names
Cobb Hightower also in that trade! Best A-grade name trade EVER!
Got me there
If the consonant don’t fit, you must acquit!
Sounds more like bookend wide receivers.
Hands down, the single most disappointing deadline team, has to be the Boston Red Sox.
I wanted two SPs, but you can’t tell how these things turn out. If Buehler and May turn out to be serviceable #4 & #5 SPs, I think we’ll be okay.
Of all the guys I wanted, Kelly was the best fit. But TX paid a decently high price.
I respectfully disagree. No one needed a solid starting pitcher more than the Cubs. After making the all- in trade for Tucker, Hoyer folded like a lilly instead of doubling down. And for all the prospect hoarders out there, was AJ Preller afraid to trade his #1 prospect (and more) for arguably the best young closer (and perhaps future starter) in baseball? Or Dombroski who traded his #2 and #4 prospects for the young, monster closer he wanted? Dipoto in Seattle? Jim Crane, the owner in Houston? Hoyer will regret this deadline but since he was extended last week he won’t lose his job.. so…
Cubs disappointed for sure. Red Sox were solid middle of the pack.
I agree that the Cubs should have targeted a SP, but there weren’t many available at a reasonable price. Also, the Cubs SP is stronger than the Red Sox’s. I’d switch staffs in a heartbeat.
I think the Red Sox have less reason to go all in this year than the Cubs. May is a better pickup than whoever the Cubs got. Cubs are a stronger team with less needs so I can see a lighter deadline for them. Tucker was big though so they should have kept going just to capitalize on him.
I wouldn’t trade Owen Cassie to “capitalize on Tucker”.
The Cubs don’t have an old lineup and won’t be rebuilding or reloading if they don’t sign Tucker.
In the light of day, I’m glad the Sox didn’t meet what were apparently the asking prices for some of these guys, but I agree that they may as well have punted on yet another season. Viewed side by side with everyone else their deadline only looks weaker than it already did.
I dont think any team in baseball truly nailed it at the deadline. The Twins got a lot of prospects but now have no bullpen for the present or future. The Padres improved a great deal but decimated their farm system. Certainly a fun deadline. Lot of teams did well i just dont think anyone did everything right.
You can replace prospects
You can’t replace playoff chances
“How ever will Preller replace a top 10 prospect in De Vries! What was Preller thinking!”
Probably he’s developed ss Tatis jr into a top 10 prospect, ss Cj Abrams into a top 10 prospect, ss Jackson Merrill into a top 10 prospect, and ss Leo De Vries into a top 10 prospect.
Deivid Coronil says hi
Don’t get carried away. For all you know he is another Yendry Rojas.
Vries overrated. Plenty of guys I would take over him. Detroit has at least 2. Preller can sign a Vries any to every year. Padres cleaned out their system much worse than this in the past.
Vries might not be SS. I’d lean not if I had to pick. All those pitchers might be relievers.
Miller no doubt elite maybe best closer for years to come. If Padres can make him a starter this trade becomes epic for them.
Miller is exciting. Fans excited buy keep their season tickets. Good players mean playoffs. Playoffs mean $. If Vries doesn’t make it or just a guy it’s not exciting.
Twins are tanking rebuilding trying to sell team. They don’t care about present bullpen. Probably won’t care about next year either. If they do they can simply keep making claims and minor trades and sign free agents. Failed starter prospects will become good relievers.
Dude the Padres are good at drafting and developing. If they actually held on to their young talent they could build a sustainable competitor instead of what this is.
What young talent?
Wood Abrams Gore? They had success going with Profar Cease Vasquez Higgy King Kim last year winning 93 games second most in franchise history. Would Gore Abrams Wood have made them better last year? No
Would Gore Abrams make them better than Sheets Cease King Vasquez Bogaerts have this year? They’ve won 61 games so far and are 3 back of the dodgers. Hard to say those 3 would make the padres significantly better this year cause keeping Wood Gore Abrams means no King Cease Vasquez holding down 3 rotation spots.
See when you keep young talent you remove key pieces like Adams Cease King Vasquez Arraez Scott and all the other pieces that have helped the padres make runs towards the playoffs under Preller
Would you as a fan trade your team going all in, to win one world series title and then have a couple of down years…or sit on the edge of things for a few years in a row when the team looks good in March and then may or may not be good in the regular season and gets nowhere in October?
As an Orioles fan with no WS titles since 1983 and plenty of down years without the good ones, I take option 1. Starting to think I will never see them win another one, am in my 50s now.
They are about to lose all the talent they got for Soto and Gore, Wood and Abrams are all still under team control. And they have traded away a LOT more prospects that haven’t had a chance to prove themselves yet.
If the Padres can win it all soon then it was all worth it. If they cant then it wasnt.
I think the Orioles really messed up in the offseason with their moves and signings. But at least they went with a lot of 1 year deals so they have a chance to rebound quickly. And they had a good draft too. But their lack of urgency needs to change.
“ They are about to lose all the talent they got for Soto and Gore, Wood and Abrams are all still under team control.”
Do free agents trades and general common sense not exist in your world?
Thats great Gore Wood Abrams are all still under team control. They still have Sheets/Laureno under team control next season in LF and have a couple seasons of sheets as the LH platoon in LF if they choose to go that route.
Cease and King can now be QO or resigned. QO adds draft picks which adds $ to their 2026 allotment. Not to mention Suarez Arraez will most likely receive a QO as well. They signed Pivetta and picked up Sears in anticipation both King and Cease may leave for a couple seasons negating the need to replace them if they do so leave
Oh and they fixed their C issue for a couple seasons with one of the better defenders in the league.
Oh and they replaced Suarez already if he chooses to leave elsewhere
So yeah as much as Gore Abrams and Wood are under team control Prellers already plugged the holes for a couple seasons which by the time guys he’s acquired hit free agency Wood Gore and Abrams will have hit free agency as well.
So would Wood Gore Abrams make them significantly better? Not really
Guess you missed the memo about Profar and his PED use.
@thorton
Going “all in” doesn’t guarantee a WS title. Once the team goes all in, its likely to result in that couple of down years, loss of core players in FA, possibly a change in GM, and less ticket sales. That’s why teams seldom do it. Better to get multiple chances at the apple.
Thornton Mellon
Would you as a fan trade your team going all in, to win one world series title and then have a couple of down years…
=====================
The flaw in that argument is assuming trades will a WS. If it was guaranteed, 100% of the fans will say yes. But 95% of the playoff contenders walk away empty-handed.
So, except for the elite teams and the truly fringy teams, that question cannot be answered. IMHO, for a team like my RS, I just want them to make good trades.
If they are in 1st by 6 games next year, then I’d be much more enthusiastic about picking up a #2 SP.
69th rounder is spot on. Nothing is guaranteed, regardless of the moves GMs make or don’t make. But standing pat and being timid, never won a championship. I applaud Preller for going for it. Jed Hoyer didn’t back up the Tucker trade with a move for a solid starter that they are in dire need of and it will haunt him. Scared never won squat.
stymeedone
Going “all in” doesn’t guarantee a WS title.
====================
It’s only a good idea when it works. Re-phrase the question and ask Met fans how they feel about the PCA trade.
I’d guess there is at least one trade per year that really hurts a contender, and doesn’t get them a WSC.
JoeBrady-
Not guaranteed, yes. Good point.
As an Orioles fan I will take their approach in 1996-97 when they added all the pieces they needed and tried to become a dominant team. They had one WC appearance and one division title, making it to the wire in the ALCS. Then Angelos’ ego got in the way and destroyed it. The 1996 team was so much fun and the 1997 team was still their best between 1983 and today (yes, better than the 101 win 2023 team that had a lot going its way in 1-run record, lack of injuries, and unsustainable situational hitting favorability).
This year Elias decided to spend money on Morton, Sugano, Sanchez, Gibson, and O’Neill trying to find bargains and thinking he’s smarter than everyone. He could have had Fried and Pivetta, traded for Luzardo without much, and just gotten Laureano while skipping O’Neill – spent less money and probably have spent the deadline tweaking the team as a buying contender.
They aren’t going for it, really the strategy seems to be how little money can they spend to be on the edge of the playoff race, and it blew up spectacularly this year. As a fan this is much worse, because basically the stars have to align like 2023 except that all the teams that actually go for it and then turn it on in the postseason fall apart.
rondon-I agree with this. I am rooting for the Padres this year.
stymeedone – not an Orioles fan then?
Just curious the example you’re basing from so I understand.
Cards-Pretty much what I said with the Burns signing in 2024 and when their big pickup for 2023 was Cole Irvin. And when they sold in 2022 despite being over .500 and 1-2 games out of the WC at the deadline.
They seem to be satisfied hoping another 2023 happens again. 2023 looks like an outlier given no injuries, 1 run record, situational hitting. 2024 with 90 wins or so, some injuries and no outlying stats seems to be a ceiling – that was with an actual ace.
They need 2 if not 3 high level starters this winter. Same as last winter and the winter before. No “building the rotation from the ground up.” No “diamonds in the rough”. No hoping for the 3rd year in a row Grayson Rodriguez suddenly becomes healthy and becomes one. Real live 1 and 2 starters with track records in major league baseball who are in their primes not 10 years past.
Profars PED suspension is atlantas issue
Profar gave the padres 158 games of .280/.380/.459/.839 good for 134 OPS + last year for 1.5 mill.
2020 made playoffs
2021 they do better than 79-83 if their pitching held up instead of running out the likes of Jake Arrieta, Vince Velazquez, and having reliever s start 17 games
2022 made the playoffs
2023 they went 82-80 but lost some ungodly amount of extra inning games like 12, 15 games and finally won an extra inning game in late September. I mean can imagine going 0-12 0-15 and finally getting a win in September lmao. Had they actually done better like 5-7 or 7-9 they make the playoffs
2024 made the playoffs
2025 they’re probably making the playoffs
Prellers given them a good 6 year window to make the playoffs. Unfortunately things haven’t always gone the way you’d hope like pitching injuries and almost going winless in extras for an entire season but he’s given them chances. More so than any other GM has.
He was thinking “If we don’t win soon I won’t be here to see DeVries.
Kind of like how the last 2 presidents are thinking “I won’t be around much longer so forget the debt”. And thats not going to work out long term either……
***The last 4 presidents***
Twins were in an awful position because of their ownership situation. Fans are never going to be happy if the team sells, if ownership is smart they tell the gm to sell before the money problems become public gives the team better leverage in trades. Getting rid of Correa was a big win. The issue with the twins going forward is they aren’t even bad enough to tank and bottom out. Given the lack of high end starters that didn’t move they were probably better off trading Joe Ryan. Be interesting to see if Burton is willing to be traded in the winter now with the current direction of the team.
The Twins had to trade away Bader, Coulombe and Castro. Beyond that they chose to trade away the rest. They look like an average team now and average is not the place to be.
Spot on correct. You want to be .450 or worse, or .550 or better.
I can’t believe the were so desperate they took 26 y/o A+ pitcher with a career 6.46 ERA.
Hell, I didn’t even know he had been released by the Giants Minor League system. And you wanna know, it was taking guys like that in the 2nd Round was part of the reason Farhan Zaidi got fired. For a “Baseball Genius” he was really bad at drafting. And trading. And signing Free Agents. And player development. And roster management as a whole.
The Yankees traded something like 16 prospects.. 😆
On the bus side I think the Mariners, Phillies, Brewers, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Rangers all did well, in that order. Padres really went all in but maybe gave up a lot. Reds were just strange. Lots of big relievers got overpaid for everywhere.
Sell side the Braves were a disaster. Seems like a bunch of sell teams held guys that should have been traded but maybe no offers were made. Twins really blew it up! Depending on how well the prospects do they could have killed it. Getting out from under Correa was huge.
Astros bringing Correa back was odd.
I’d say the Twins, D’Backs, and O’s all did well selling.
Tampa did well going both ways.
Mariners made themselves much better.
Padres and Astros overpaid.
Dodgers, Yankees and Tigers filled gaps.
Marlins and White Sox held more than I figured but that may not be bad.
Braves apparently think they have a chance?
Rangers getting Kelly was big for them but they need some hitting.
These lists should be categorized by Sellers, Buyers and Seller-Buyers. It’s not as usef7as presented, although it’s a straightforward summary buy team.
Blues Alley.
Of the guys who should have but weren’t moved, Dennis Santana and Zac Gallen have to be at the top of the list.
I would guess Arizona QO fallen despite his struggles this year.
I really thought last week the dbacks were going to be the winners of the deadline given the lack of difference makers. They had a little bit of everything available and I’m not sure they got a roster player for next year.
I guess. But they literally gave up all pending free agents so it’s not like any of those players were on next years roster either.
The nice thing for Gallen is that QO is almost best used as a do-over when you have a bad year going into FA. Wouldn’t be unreasonable to take it and land a massive contract. Arizona could be competitive even next year too.
Tommy Pham since June 20th has .411 batting average. Guys always being traded but not this year. Pirates had a bad deadline. Started off great then just a collapse.
IKF Heaney pretty weak and can see no one wanting them but no one wanted them?
I was shocked at Gallen. I thought he’d have gotten a fringy top-100 prospect.
I’d also add Robert, Ward, and Nate Lowe,
I guess not many teams value a 5+ ERA.
Ozuna seems like a shoulda.
Wait so does MLBTR go out of business now? No more trades allowed. Amirite?
Actually, unless it has been changed, it is possible to make a trade after July 31 until August 31, provided they pass through waivers. Adrian Gonzalez is one player who got to experience this when he went from Boston to the Dodgers. So on some level, the deadline isn’t really a deadline in the strictest sense.
mlb.com/glossary/transactions/trade-waivers-aug-31…
Post-TDL Revocable Waiver Trades were abolished, E.
From your link:
“As of 2019, players may still be placed and claimed on outright waivers after the Trade Deadline, but trades aren’t permitted after that date. With regards to newly acquired players, the Aug. 31 postseason roster deadline remains in effect.”
In essence, the Deadline is now in fact a hard Deadline. You can still claim players off Waivers with August 31st being the cut-off for a Postseason eligible player.
Yay! No more MLBTR!
…until 2 minutes after the Padres win Game 7 of the World Series…!
I suggested milking it a few more days. Poll grade teams in each division trades. 2 divisions each Friday Saturday Sunday.
Milk though not drag out. Like off season reviews in April.
Can also look forward to the end of August waiver wire salary dump.
Definitely need some polls and in depth breakdowns by team.
Thanks, I was so focused on digging up the info I was looking for apparently the 2019 detail got skimmed past!
As of when I’m posting this, I don’t see the Maton deal…
Maton was dealt for Mason Molina and a relief prospect Shales or something like that. Not really impressed with the return the Cardinals got for him.
That was a dumb move. He was a low salary and was a reliable setup guy who was traded for a wing and a prayer.
They literally waited until the last moment to trade him. Any return is better than nothing. Their season is just playing out the schedule now.
Thanks, I left the transactions tag off that one so I missed it. Adding now.
No worries, just was trying to help make sure everything was there!
Thanks for noticing, Eric T.
We’ll get right on that…
nuts. can’t recall the last time so many teams made moves on trading deadline day, even from non contenders.
The wrong Luis Garcia is linked under the Angels.
MLB trade lovers feasted at this deadline. So many moves.
What a fun couple days. The MLBTR logo is now burned into my eyes and when I blink I see it on the wall. My thumb randomly hits the refresh button even when I’m not holding my phone. I argued with 7 strangers in an Arby’s about who got the better deal when I exchanged Cash Considerations for a Classic Beef n’ Cheddar meal. Called my partner Passan last night.
For the first hour you may think that you came out ahead. But that beef and cheddar was only a rental and proved to be painful on its way out.
Just a heads up! Cash considerations were also acquired alongside Ramon Urias.
I take it back now looking at it again I like what the Yankees did. They got a ton of help and they didn’t give up their top prospects to get it either.
Yankees, Tigers and Dodgers all filled holes without too much pain.
Braves traded Jim Jarvis to Braves for Rafael Montero. Not surprising no other team was biting.
Could see guys like Ozuna, Iglesias, Verlander, and others move to new teams on the waiver wire transactions over the next month since they’re not going to get qualifying offers when they hit free agency this off-season. It’s one way for teams out of contention to reduce payroll a little bit as their lost season comes to a close…
Article idea. Trade grade for each division teams.
Arizona A. All in sold. Good returns.
A’s A. Closer to refresh farm.
Atlanta C. Nothing but nothing much to do.
Baltimore B. Sold a lot.
Boston B. Slow at deadline but dumped Devers $. By not trading they kept prospects. Expensive market. But Yankees got much better. Probably C but wanted B for Boston.
Chicago C. Got helpful pieces that aren’t the best available but they kept top prospects.
Chicago 2 C
Cincinnati D. No doubt SS who can run for no jelly back Hayes. Bob Nutting loves you.
Cleveland A. Like prospect for Bieber.
Colorado A Welcome to trade deadline.
Detroit C. Like Chicago added lower tier talent kept prospects. Heard Pittsburgh insisted on Rainer for Keller. Don’t think I would have done it either.
Houston A. Correa back. Playoffs hopefully. Keep season ticket holders.
KC A. Like Chicago Detroit but stole Falter and players will make bigger dent.
Angels C.
Dodgers C
Marlins C
Milwaukee C
Dodgers Brewers pretty set didn’t have to do much.
Minnesota A+ Fully committed fire sale.
NY Mets A Loaded bullpen
NY Yankees A+ Loaded pen even more and bats bats bats.
Philly A closer cf
Pirates D. Was A then Bednar trade dropped it to B C and the Falter nightmare D. 2 worst trades of deadline Reds taking bad back Hayes salary and pirates giving away Falter. Trading Bednar 3rd worst.
Padres A+ All in. Usually AJ stands out for insane high pays but everyone did it this deadline so fantastic for SD.
SF A. Smart to sell rentals.
Seattle A
ST Louis A
Tampa A
Texas A
Toronto C. Good prospect for Bieber. Yankees want Championship. Toronto ehh see what happens.
Washington A
No idea why I did that. Lost steam halfway through. Hope at least one person is entertained.
I think Atlanta should get a lower grade. Baffling that they didn’t trade Iglesias or Ozuna. They have solid roster but are decimated by injuries. They needed to take advantage of the down year by selling impending FAs to add to their farm system.
Iglesias maybe. Would need to eat salary. Ozuna injury concerns, domestic, under .200 average last 2 months, expensive.
C because not much they could do.
Wouldn’t argue a D
I can’t remember a more poorly run franchise in Pittsburgh than this current regime.
It’s incredible, really
They got a couple of catchers from the Yanks who may pan out—-may—and traded for A players.
IKF is still here. Will play out his contract and leave. No value?
Pham is hitting better than anyone since the new contact lenses. Will play out his contract here. No value
Heaney is a decent arm. Also on a one year deal. No value?
It’s almost incredible. Really.
You’re being way too kind with a D grade, my friend
There is no cavalry coming over the hill here anytime soon and the GM said his goal was to make the team better???
D because it wasn’t all bad. When a player says the jelly stuff between the discs in my back is gone and you can trade that player and his entire contract and get a starting ss, that’s a A all day. Maybe he was a drama queen and it isn’t that bad and will be good. I didn’t see the medicals. Either way 50 something ops a change of scenery is good for him. Ferguson trade good. Bednar quantity over quality was fair enough. I’d went quality. Would love to know what better was available. It’s not a F. The only possible F is Falter. And not trading the rentals who wouldn’t have returned much if anyone wanted them.
IKF has a batting average of .214 with 31 hits, 13 RBIs and 8 runs scored in 45 games since June 4, 2025.
Has 1 HR repeat 1 HR all year. Don’t want him on my team. Don’t want Heaney.
Andrew Heaney is 3-8 with an ERA of 6.07 and 47 strikeouts in 16 appearances since April 29, 2025
Don’t want that either.
Arizona A. All in sold. Good returns.
A’s B. Closer to refresh farm. Could have sold more but probably had no takers.
Atlanta F. Non contender that held way too much.
Baltimore B. Sold a lot. Had a few pieces that still should have been sold like Sugano.
Boston B. Dumped Devers cancer and patched a few holes.
Chicago D. Got fringe pieces that aren’t the best available but they kept top prospects. Should have went for E. Suarez and M. Kelly.
Chicago 2 B. Kind of quiet but not much to sell.
Cincinnati D. No doubt SS who can run for no jelly back Hayes. Bob Nutting loves you. Seriously how is Hayes a middle of the order bat?
Cleveland A. Like prospect for Bieber.
Colorado C. This is their best deadline ever.
Detroit B. Didn’t need much.
Houston D. Overpaid for Correa and Sanchez. Both are league average.
KC B. Very solid could become sneaky good.
Angels C. This is good for them.
Dodgers B. Filled a few gaps and didn’t lose much.
Marlins B. Interesting deadline because they held more than expected. Team is better than expected too. If Sandy bounces back this is a B. If not a C.
Milwaukee A. Lots of moves that should turn out very well. Strengthened a lot without giving up much.
Minnesota A. Fully committed fire sale. This was a shocker. Loved moving Correa.
NY Mets B. Loaded bullpen, paid for it.
NY Yankees A. Loaded pen even more and bats bats bats. Didn’t give up much by going bullpen and platoon bat route.
Philly A. Impact Closer and solid CF. Phillies did well.
Pirates D. Was A then Bednar trade dropped it to B C and the Falter nightmare D. 2 worst trades of deadline Reds taking bad back Hayes salary and pirates giving away Falter. Trading Bednar 3rd worst. They also held on to too many players.
Padres B. All in. Usually AJ stands out for insane high pays but everyone did it this deadline. Still overpaid. I almost went C but they did improve the MLB team quite a bit.
SF D. Smart to sell rentals. Should have sold more. Devers trade was terrible.
Seattle A+++. Most improved offense in league. Didn’t overpay. Huge gains. If they don’t win the West I will be surprised.
St. Louis A. Very solid without destroying core.
Tampa A. Buy and sell and still improve future? I’ll take it.
Texas B. Definitely improved already solid pitching. Could have used a bat or two.
Toronto B. Some big moves. May have overpaid for some. Was it enough to hold off the Yankees?
Washington A. Did as expected. Could be a B grade too.
Thanks for the format AI.
Boggs, I love the Colorado and Angels comments. The kids who always get Fs finally pass a test.
@wade
2 that stand out i factored Devers in more for Boston than SF. Don’t know why but kinda I seen the Pirates Giants games Monday Tuesday and heck of a crowd like the used to get. Excitement over Buster running team or from Devers trade? They been trying to get big names for years and failed so they finally got one. But a lot of $ for a fat dh.
Correa isn’t a star anywhere but Houston. So to get a star and have another team pay for part of him I liked. More business grade than baseball. To the season ticket holder that is a exciting move.
Did the Mets actually think Soto as a baseball player was worth 700m? No. But you can look now or wait until end of year and look up their attendance vs last year. Will be in playoffs more often and longer. TV Radio contracts are expiring fairly soon.
My favorite one was “Baltimore: sold a lot”. It really seemed like some teams (Baltimore, Yankees, Minnesota, Arizona, Detroit, Tampa) were just trading for the sake of trading at times and I love it. Volume like that means some trades are bound to work out.
Sellers market. Prices were high. But consistent. I thought just about every seller got good greqt returns but buyers kept their best prospects. Vries was a big one but I have questions about him. Top 20 sure but #3? If I’m Tigers I ain’t trading McGonigle Clark for him. I’m keeping Bubba Chandler. Have you seen what pitching cost? A reliever got Vries! I ain’t trading 7 years of Bubba! Who’s stuff would tick up even more as reliever! Twins I’m keeping Jenkins. Maybe I am crazy. Not like I don’t think Vries is a top 100. Just maybe 9th or 13th or something that’s not 3. Still very expensive. I dunno what’s your guys favorite team and best prospect? Are you trading it for Vries? Miller?
Os also got the pitcher Enns for cash from the Tigers.
With a lot of closers, and relievers in general, commanding a cache of prospects in return, gotta wonder why the Braves didn’t trade Iglesius, Johnson and Lee. They ain’t going anywhere and they certainly could have used their pitching bolstered by acquiring SP prospects.
And what is Ozuna now? An expensive PH vs. a LHP? Certainly could have gotten something for him.
Mets did a great job. With that bullpen their SP only need cover 4 or 5 innings. Mullins a big offensive upgrade over Taylor.
Yeah the Braves inactivity is curious for sure. The notion that they couldn’t force a trade, or that teams didn’t want to pay for players underperforming is hard to believe in the case of Ozuna, Iglesias and Johnson. We saw players who are worse than those three being moved. I think it was about how much money is still owed to Iggy and Ozuna, the Braves would either be paying 6mil for the rest of the season or want FV of 6 mil and that probably was the sticking point
I wonder if Ozuna’s reputation kept teams away.
OUPS!! “The Braves acquired Jim Jarvis from Braves for Rafael Montero”
Can’t trade with oneself! You must have been exhausted after all the trades!
you have the wrong link for Jesus Rodriguez
Well, at least the Mets cut their minor league payroll I guess!
Looks like Tigers trading Dietrich Enns to the Orioles is missing from the list.
If you’re blowing up the team, why wouldn’t you trade Joe Ryan ?
Thank You for this article being broke down by the Teams like this!!!!!
AWESOME!!!!
Red Sox moves have nice upside. Innings. It’s all about innings. Not just bullpen pieces. Maybe the rest of MLB will catch up. I’m used to being way ahead of the analytics nerds, so eventually they will catch up.
There is indeed a lot of talent on the Red Sox roster, but they simply are not built for a deep playoff run, even assuming their current roster stays totally healthy. We’ve seen by now that with the way the playoffs are structure you realistically need two (and preferably three) front-line starting pitchers and a deep, frightening bullpen to get deep. Sometimes that’s a flash in the pan—like, the Rangers won in part because guys like Montgomery and Sborz were playing above their thresholds that year—but it’s pretty clear that in terms of reliable pitching talent the Sox basically have Crochet and Chapman and that’s it. Maybe Bello and Giolito somehow get better as the season wears on, but there’s no reason to believe that’s going to happen given their track records or the general trend that lots of pitchers (especially younger ones or ones recovering from injury like these two) often lose steam around August. And Crochet himself has never carried the workload of a full season of starts. He’s either going to hurt himself, be gassed by October, or need to start pitching significantly less often.
I don’t think the Matz and May trades are bad trades. But barring a miracle they’re just not enough.
Usually the Red Sox need to win at least 95 to get there. But this year is unusual. The best team right now is on pace for 96 wins. So there’s a good chance someone gets hot and runs the table. I doubt it will be the Red Sox.
They are setting themselves up for next year. They need to tone down Crochet a bit. They need to determine if Buehler and May are worth keeping. Dobbins? He might be good. Harrison? Let’s get him on the mound.
Is Matz worthwhile? Chapman going forward? Lots of questions to answer.
Glad they held on to their position players, there is talent there, just need better lineup balance and defense. Both attainable.
The Pirates keep 3 guys whose contracts expire at the end of the season in Pham, IKF and Heaney, and send away Bednar, Hayes, Falter and Ferguson in return for largely a bunch of guys who will not help the team anytime soon, if ever
Just more salary dumping by MLB’s worst front office?
If you tried to run a franchise into the ground, you couldn’t do any better than these guys
Unimpressive for the Pirates, Bednar and Falter the big trades and the return was meh at best. Barely addressed their offensive weakness while downgrading the pen.
Falter Maybe an addition by subtraction freeing a spot up for a young guy but the return was not impressive.
Bednar did give a fairly near term guy in Flores. may see a bit of time this season.
Hayes did get Stafura who could be good in a few years
Most shocking trades that went down.
Mason Miller to the Padres and Carlos Oppenheimer Jr. to the Astros.
Twins really went full nuke didn’t they Mr. O?
Yup. Traded everyone except Ryan and Buxton pretty much n
The Dodgers were the biggest losers at the deadline.
Red Sox, Brewers & Dodgers confused me, though 2 of those front offices have track records good enough to give them the benefit of the doubt
So all the stats of the traded guys automatically transfer to the new teams right?
Maybe assess in October?
The Tigers 100%
Should have traded
Torres
Flaherty
Lee and other prospects
To get a BIG HAUL.
Paddock and Morton were great gets. A+ for.these.moves
F- for not even trying to trade for the future as well.
IF Torres and Flaherty are.not on the Tigers next year, remember this.
Harris did well what he did, but has little gumption. It would have taken some balls to do.
Disappointed he has NO GUTS.
NO GUTS
NO GLORY
IF they don’t win the World Series, remember this.
If trying to win trading Torres and Flaherty might not be popular with the clubhouse.
Probably not….or with the fans, but it was the right thing to do. Getting Paddock and Morton was great.
