Nationals Agree To Sign Mike Cameron

By Mike Axisa | December 19, 2011 at 4:28pm CDT

The Nationals have agreed to sign outfielder Mike Cameron to a minor league deal, the team announced (on Twitter). Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported the agreement (on Twitter).

Cameron, 39 in January, also drew interest from the Indians recently. His production took a big dip in 2011, when he hit just .203/.285/.359 in 269 overall plate appearances with the Red Sox and Marlins. The advanced metrics continue to rate his outfield defense very well, however. Washington figures to keep looking for a long-term solution in center field, but Cameron represents a solid stopgap player or bench piece.

“If healthy” and “will [suddenly] have a big year”

    Sounds promising.

At this point—all I can see this as being is a bench player. Mike Cameron at his age is finished as an everyday player.

(Okay, so it is a minor league deal…probably his last chance.)

Bro, Colon wouldn’t be ahead of Lannan, Wang, or Peacock. Pelfrey is a complete joke, just like your delusions of the Mets having any chance of finishing anywhere but the basement of the N.L. East the next few years.

Niese would be a number two starter on most teams if healthy? Are you nuts.. He has a 4.39 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, and gives up 10.1 H/9 over his two years in the majors.. Or maybe it’s his career 3.75 minor league ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 9 H/9 that makes you think he could ever be a #2 starter on any team but the Mets.. Be happy if he’s ever good enough to be a solid 3
