Valentine announced he doesn’t “see any gaping holes on our team” immediately after placing Ciriaco in the DH position.
Crucisnh
Oh, good grief. Just because the Sox don’t have some stud waiting in the wings to play DH when Ortiz goes on the DL doesn’t indicate that that’s a gaping hole on the team. Jeez.
Psycho Tim
Say now, there still has to be at least one member of the Lars Anderson bandwagon out there.
MaineSox
Because Ciriaco is the teams normal DH, and is going to be there the rest of the year, and they don’t have the best DH in the game coming back in a couple weeks, so they really need to trade for one, right?
johnsilver
What appreciate best when u post.. Cold simple.. Facts? HAHAHA
Cheers
Karkat
I’ll take a DH who’s batting .395 any day, personally!
rainyperez
Why would Crawford have regrets for signing a contract that gives you millions upon millions of dollars?
notsureifsrs
…because other teams also offered millions upon millions of dollars, and he might have liked it there better? thought this was obvious
rainyperez
Wait a second I wasn’t criticizing the fact that he signed with the Red Sox?
I was pointing out the fact that most people would not regret signing a piece of paper that would give you millions unless the trade off was having some obscene tattoo plastered on your face and you were contractually obligated to leave it there.
notsureifsrs
right, and everyone knows that no one would regret that, so that wasn’t the question asked. the question was about signing such a piece of paper with boston, as opposed to signing one with another team
OrangeCards
If anything, Crawford is THRILLED he signed that contract before his game fell apart. Regrets? Silly talk.
johnsilver
1 season? 6 more left? How many that hammered CC are going to remain silent when he returns to form?
1st 3 games he hasn’t done too shabby and ATM can’t even throw the ball 70′.
Electric CC has looked like the CC from the Rays on the base paths so far.
Tko11
I hope youre right
OrangeCards
He might rebound but what does that have to do with my comment?
Rebound or not, he’s thrilled he signed in 2010 and not after that disastrous 2011 campaign.
NYPOTENCE
You better hope he finds his form; also doesn’t he need TJ next year?
johnsilver
He is getting it after the season. For positional players? The return time is only 5 months or so. He should be back by the start of 2013.
Matt
“Carl. We signed you to $142m deal to play for us, unfortunately you have been injured and not living up to expectations. Remember that no matter what happens, you get the $142m. Do you regret signing that deal?”
notsureifsrs
…the question isn’t about signing a big contract, but a big contract with the red sox
redsox927
notsure: doesn’t matter how many times you say it… if your skull is thick your skull is thick.. I got it just like you did the first time i read it…
Phil Barnes
Im scared to death of Cherington making a ‘big move’…..
Ben_Cherington
Dont be. I got this!
EarlyMorningBoxscore
Bobby V doesn’t see any gaping holes…apparently the Grand Canyon sized crater in the starting rotation isn’t gaping enough. What will be gaping enough? A crater the size of the Mariana Trench? eeesh
itsmewade
Shhh. Hopefully Theo doesn’t read this.
notsureifsrs
they could use a competent manager
MaineSox
The back end of Buccholz, Doubront, and Cook/Morales have been performing as well as, or better than, could be expected (since Buchholz re-found his change up at least), and they aren’t going to be replacing Beckett or Lester, so while I agree that the rotation (in a broad sense) needs to be upgraded, the question is who you replace.
John LeClair
“I don’t see any gaping holes in our team.” Well than Bobby your blind then!
OrangeCards
“Ya know, I’ve struggled so much since signing that 9 figure, mega contract … I just, I dunno, I wish I had never signed.”
– Things you’ll never hear an athlete say, ever.
notsureifsrs
“Ya know, I’ve struggled so much since signing that 9 figure, mega contract … I just, I dunno, I wish I had never signed a 9 figure mega contract here”
– Things you could realistically hear an athlete say, though probably not to the local press in the place he’s still signed for years to come
Lunchbox45
I dont get what everyone is so confused about
sure most people wouldnt regret signing that contract… but most people didnt have the same money offered to them in multiple locations.
he wants out of the lime light.
BrianKelly
if craford might go to the marlins who will the sox get
and crawford said he has NO regrets from signing with boston
Scott Fields
Carl Crawford would be a perfect fit in Left Field for the Dodgers. The question is what is Boston asking for in return?
docbot
Do the reds have the parts to make a Carl Crawford trade? He would have a ton more upside than picking up a Juan Pierre or Shane Victorino and the Sox seem resigned to the fact that they are paying him one way or another…
