The Angels have announced that southpaw Lucas Luetge was designated for assignment. His roster spot will go to third baseman Kaleb Cowart.
Luetge, 29, did not appear for the Halos upon his recent call-up. He’s been pitching at Triple-A for most of the year, contributing 19 1/3 innings of 2.33 ERA ball with 7.9 K/9 against 4.7 BB/9. The lefty has previously spent time in the Mariners pen and owns a 4.35 earned run average in 89 total big league frames.
As for Cowart, this represents the second big league stint for a former top prospect. He didn’t do much with his first opportunity, though it was short-lived. Over his 166 plate appearances this year at Triple-A, Cowart owns a .303/.352/.454 batting line with a pair of home runs and three stolen bases.

The revolving door for the Angels players keeps going round and round…..
We suck
True. You beat me to it. Other than Trout, can’t hit. Starting pitchers sitting in hospital more than in the clubhouse.
Angels are 5th in the AL in team batting average! Lol
Trade trout
I think they should. With a crappy team and worse outlooks on the minors, and not to mention weak free agents coming up… There is just no way they can field a winning team. Trading Trout would be unpopular but the haul back would be greater WAR than Trout alone.
You guys are both out of your mind
Well at this point the Angels are just wasting trouts prime. They have nothing around him besides an old Albert pujols. Their pitching staff is on the DL and the rest of their position players couldn’t hit water if they were standing on a boat. At least a trout trade would replenish the farm system and give them a chance in the next 5ish years.
Next 5ish years all the bad contracts except pujols is gone. Big market teams rebuild quicker then small market teams even with a horrid farm system
How exactly are you calculating these hypothetical players’ WAR over Trout’s. The most likely scenario would be matching Trout’s WAR with multiple chips IF they even pan out, which is whole other discussion. Trading Trout would be the dumbest possible move for the Angels. That’s the ultimate franchise center piece you build around. You don’t give that away. There are several ways the Angels can field a winning team. You just have to take the time to look. And one scenario is the one happening right now where their offense is taking off like it did in ’12-’14 with only their injuries to their SP and closer standing in their way. A lot of people seem to be missing the logic behind the Angels being projected so low. Those projections are always partially based on the previous season. And the way the Angels have been hitting over the past few weeks, it’s looking more and more like 2015 was just an off year for them at the plate. With that, I’d bet money that if this team’s rotation and Street were healthy right now, they’d be right there with the Mariners.
Yes I hate this team.
Then go route for the Mariners. This team is showing a lot of fight and have started to hit like they did a couple years ago. With a healthy rotation and closer they’d be right there with the Mariners.
Cowart should be the back up left fielder
I’m guessing some kind of audition for a trade here. Cowart has been both blocked and struggled his way out of being a top prospect. At this point I don’t think he has a future with the Angels, and perhaps this begins a showcase for him and maybe other young Halos.
